Appearance
This is the big one. The Appearance control panel contains an array of features that make the Mac OS simply more appealing to use. While some may point to other utilities that patch the look of the Mac OS, none do it with the simplicity, speed, or stability that Apple's redone Appearance control panel does. Themes are going to be a big part of Mac OS 8.5, allowing users to customize their environment to their taste. Links to screen shots of a desktop under the Hi-Tech and Gizmo themes (the only two currently included with Mac OS 8.5) are provided below. The Sound option assigns sounds for every task you perform in the Mac OS. Clicking menus, dragging windows, unmounting drives... you name it, there's a sound to go along with it. Smart Scrolling is also controlled through the Appearance control panel, allowing you to have double arrows (the up and down are one on top of each other), and a scroll bar that's proportional to the viewable size of the window and full size.
