For on Friday announced it has made its SYNC 3.0 updates, including the Traffic, Direction and Information (TDI) application, now available for download via the Ford SYNC website. The automaker's 2010 models equipped with the SYNC entertainment system will ship with the update already installed, though owners of some early-launch 2010 models will need to perform the update themselves. Ford and Microsoft, which have jointly developed the SYNC communications and entertainment system for various Ford vehicles, may soon get streaming Internet radio capabilities via a partnership with Internet radio provider Pandora. A representative from Ford's Design and Technology team, Charlotte Fisher, has promised SYNC will receive regular updates sometime between every six and twelve months and has confirmed that Ford is currently engaged in talks with Pandora. SocketHead Studios has released myTuneSync 1.2, an update to its iTunes synchronization utility that allows content to be transferred between computers. The latest version adds support for additional metadata attributes, along with the ability to sync playlists. A new function can be used to search and select groups of tracks while the program is running a sync. [full story]

Foxmarks, Inc. has released several variants of its browser add-on, Foxmarks, that can now be used to synchronize bookmarks between Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari. The add-ons automatically back up any bookmarks to the company's servers every time a change is made. Users can also view, add, edit and delete bookmarks directly from the Foxmarks website if using a borrowed or public computer, or visit a mobile version of the site to access content from any web-enabled handset. Ford this week introduced a new set of SYNC 3.0 services that leverage voice-recognition software, integrated GPS technology and Bluetooth-capable mobile phones to deliver personalized traffic reports, turn-by-turn driving directions and up-to-date information (business listings, news, sports and weather) -- without the need for a built-in navigation system. CTM Development has released PowerMail 6.0, the latest version of its application for searching and managing e-mail. Users can now sync with MobileMe or take advantage of full coexistence with iPhone mail. The release adds a self-updating function, batch importing for Apple Mail databases and addresses, and the ability to match and merge imported folders into existing folders. [full story]

Eltima Software has released SyncMate 1.4, an update to its synchronization program that enables information to be shared between Macs and pocket PCs or smartphones. New features include a mail plug-in that allows users to sync mail between a computer and mobile device, and a to-do plug-in to synchronize tasks scheduled in calendars. Eltima Software has released SyncMate 1.4.0.365 for the Mac. It allows Mac users with Win Mobile pocket PCs and Smartphones to sync contact info, calendars and more. The new version adds First Name/Last Name order management, repairs some interface quirks and fixes duplication of contacts during an "all" category sync. The .365 upgrade also fixes AM/PM processing, Time zones problems, deletions of SMS in bulk and problems with contact note attachments. Sharpcast says it has released the "first ever" commercial app allowing over-the-air push synchronization with between iPhones, Macs and PC's. SugarSync stores data in the company's "secure online digital vault," (or cloud) where it can then be shared across platforms. A unique feature turns the iPhone into a remote control, allowing users to transfer files between other computers without downloading to the iPhone itself. [full story]

Mark/Space has announced The Missing Sync for Symbian, offering Mac-sync support for Symbian OS mobile devices from Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. Mark/Space already offers the Missing Sync for BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile and others, and now adds Symbian OS support, with a brand new feature, called Proximity Sync. Billed as "syncing without thinking," Proximity Sync (arriving first on The Missing Sync for Symbian) offers fully automated syncing of a user's Bluetooth Symbain device that comes within Bluetooth-range of the user's Mac (about 30 feet). Calgoo on Wednesday announced its cross-platform calendar sharing programs are now compatible with Apple's iCal application. The announcement affects Calgoo Hub, Calgoo Connect, and Calgoo Calendar, and will allow users to synchronize their iCal calendars with users of Google, Outlook, Sunbird, as well as a host of other cross-platform mail clients. Microsoft Auto software will find its way into Hyundai and Kia vehicles in North America, the South Korea-based automaker announced on Tuesday. The news came during Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates' trip to meet South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and will involve the two companies develop and integrate infotainment systems for the vehicles. The deal was two years in the making, and would result in a system similar to the one Microsoft developed for Ford, where it is dubbed Sync. [full story]
