New app serves as Evernote alternative
Livescribe recently introduced its third-generation smartpen and its first iOS app, Livescribe+, which aims to serve as an alternative to Evernote. We met the company this week in New York City, where we put the digital pen to task against our hastily scribbled notes. The concept is certainly promising, but does the new software and hardware really serve as an effective note-taking system for iPhones and iPads?
Smartpen directly connects to mobile device, loses microphone
Livescribe has added to its range of smartpens, with the latest having tighter integration with mobile devices. The Livescribe 3 has a more refined design compared to the Livescribe Sky, and though it ditches the audio recording of earlier models, it introduces its own dedicated Livescribe+ app for recording, managing, and sharing captured writing, rather than relying on Evernote.
Wi-Fi connection setup possible without need for computer
Livescribe has announced the Sky Wi-Fi Smartpen, the first digital pen to integrate Wi-Fi technology and cloud services. Sky can convert written words and drawings into images, and can send both the resulting pictures and recorded audio to the user's personal Evernote account. Writing and audio can then be archived and retrieved at a later date.
