MacVide has released ScreenCap 1.8, a screen capture utility for Mac OS X. The software is mainly intended to provide stills or video of a desktop for purposes like tutorials, and in the case of video, it can additionally supply audio from a microphone or similar sound source. When something unusual or interesting appears on your screen, there are times you may want to show the image to someone else. If that person is physically nearby, they can, of course, peek at your screen. In many cases though the other person may be in another city, state or country, so that isn't an option. App4mac has announced Sequence, a screenshot utility that uses multi-threaded code and 64-bit compression to capture DVD, audio and multi-media content. The developers says the software can be useful for developing training videos, because it can capture live video and audio from a webcam at the same time as their screen. Sequence was built for OSX Leopard and supports Core Animation, QuickLook, QTKit, Core Image and iChat Theater. [full story]

Vara Software today began shipping its ScreenFlow screencasting software package for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The software features screen, camera, and audio capture systems alongside advanced timeline-based editing features. Users can mix down a screencast with effects like 3D or 2D zoom and pan, mouse callouts, foreground window callouts, picture-in-picture, reflection, drop shadow, and more. Synium recently unveiled a beta test for Screenium, its new motion screen-capture application, and also issued a beta for iFinance 2, an update to its personal financial management software. Screenium allows users to record their activities with full internal application and external source audio, enabling them to create video-based tutorials and "screencasts". Screenium captures all mouse movements, clicks, and drags, while also recording all application and operating system sounds.
