More customers of large US retailers may have been affected by holiday shopping hacks than originally thought, according to a report. Three more retailers have apparently been targeted by hackers using similar techniques to the attacks on Target and Neiman Marcus, though it has yet to be revealed if it is the same collective responsible for Target's intrusion.
A social media editor for Reuters has been indicted for his part in an Anonymous hack on the Los Angeles Times website at the end of 2010. Matthew Keys, charged with counts of conspiracy to transmit, transmitting, and attempted transmission of information to damage a protected computer, faces penalties for each count of up to five or ten years in prison, three years of supervision, and fines of $250,000.
The blogging portion of the Reuters News website was hacked late Thursday, and a blog entry featuring a false interview with Riad al-Asaad, the head of the Free Syrian Army, was posted on a reporter's blog. "Reuters did not carry out such an interview, and the posting has been deleted," the Reuters statement said.
