General Mills developing Spanish-language iPad app

Cooking database will feature 900+ recipes

Aimed at the growing Hispanic market, General Mills will soon release a free iPad-specific, Spanish-language recipe app that offers 900 Latin-inspired favorites. The app, called Que Rica Vida Recetario or "What a Rich Life Cookbook" in English, is being developed in response to strong consumer demand, and will feature pictures, an ingredient measurement converter, and recipes in 12 different categories, such as appetizers and snacks, breakfasts, salads, garnishes, drinks and beverages, breads, pastas, pastries and cookies, entrees, desserts, sauces and soups.

MacGourmet Deluxe 3.0 serves up new features

"Chef View" hears, speaks for use in kitchen

Mariner Software have updated their recipe, nutrition and wine management program MacGourmet Deluxe to version 3.0, offering a new Shopping List feature, recipe importing, and allowing users more customization of their existing recipes. The program sports an overhauled interface, lets users print a professional-looking cookbook and has a new "Chef View" that makes it easier to use the program while actually in the kitchen.

YummySoup! 1.8 ($20) is a recipe organization tool which features a full screen view and text to speech options. The software also allows cooks to use an Apple Remote to flip through recipes and access an online library of user-created recipes. The new update includes a new feature which can scale recipes. The software determines what scaling factor to used based on how many people the recipe will be for and calculates all the new values. It also makes sure that values are converted to understandable denominations, for example .125 cups is converted into 2 tablespoons. [Download - 5.5MB]

HoudahSpot 2.4 ($25) allows users to create detailed queries to pinpoint the exact file they are searching for. HoudahSpot 2.4 has added a new text preview feature. This allows users to preview any text files that are found while searching without having to open the file in its default application. Ghost 1.1 (free) provides users with a simple way to create or view hidden files. By dragging and dropping files or folders into the applications window then selecting either hide or unhide. The update now prevents users from hiding their hard drives, which cannot simply be unhidden. The application now quits when the last window is closed and other various bugs have been addressed.
