Oculus gives no timeline as it searches for sources
Virtual reality headset manufacturer Oculus announced on February 19 that they were forced to halt production on further developer kits, as components needed to make the Rift are no longer being manufactured. An undisclosed number of units are still available, but further unit production will have to wait until the necessary components can be re-sourced.
Hydrofluoric acid incident re-occurs in hazardous processor factory
An incident at a Samsung production facility has seen another set of employees injured. The leak of hydrofluoric acid gas at the processor plant in Hwaseong, Korea is the second incident of its kind in a four-month period, with the previous incident taking place at the same factory with the same leaked gas causing injury.
Tablet PC production ramping up
Upstream component suppliers for tablet PCs are making preparations to ramp up tablet production for the fall quarter. Combined demand for tablet PCs and iPads is expected to grow significantly over summer shipments. Digitimes sources claim around 13.5 – 14.5 million tablets will have shipped by the end of summer, which is set to increase to over 21 million in the next quarter.
Boinx has released BoinxTV 1.2, featuring a screen source capture for Skype or iChat video and a new widescreen template. BoinxTV is live production software that allows a Mac to be a TV studio, streaming live video to disk, the Internet or to a projector. It can record studio shows, podcasts, sports events, concerts and interviews via the Mac, and supports multiple cameras. Version 1.2 also adds chroma keying improvements and several new and enhanced layers.

In brief: AssistiveWare has announced that it will be previewing a few of its upcoming applications at the BETT show in London, England. There will be both new iPhone and Mac applications previewed at their booth (SN47) over the course of the event. ATTO has announced that it is beginning a partnership with Xyratex to offer a new video production tool at a more affordable price. Meanwhile, an Apple community member has created and released their own collection of Pages templates.
BoinxTV 1.0 available
Boinx Software has launched BoinxTV 1.0, a live-production software solution for video podcasters. The software allows users to operate a TV studio from their Mac. BoinxTV can mix audio and video and record high-quality video from podcasts, sporting events, concerts and more, supporting up to three camera feeds. The interface allows a single user to choose templates and produce a live broadcast, with support for pre-recorded material, video camera inputs and microphone inputs, in a layering scheme that puts graphics and logos on top of the video feeds.

DAZ Productions has released the full edition of its DAZ Studio 3D Bridge for Photoshop plug-in after a beta period earlier this year. Samsung, Sony invest in 8G
Samsung and Sony are paying 1.8 trillion South Korean won (~$1.9 billion) to upgrade the S-LCD Corporation joint venture, allowing the two companies to produce enough 8G LCD panels to meet global demand. The Wall Street Journal reports that the new manufacturing line will be located in the Tangjeong complex southeast of Seoul, where production will start in 2009. Monthly output is initially expected to reach 60,000 units, versus 50,000 sheets currently.
