It turns out that Celtx is practically a platform rather than just one single piece of software: it's a system for film and video production that begins with a scriptwriting app and goes on up into storyboarding and other things we're not going to look at. For you only seem to realise all this when you finally cave in and wonder what the name means. Until then what you think of as Celtx is actually called Celtx script 2.9 and it's a word processor for screenwriters.
Four weeks into the summer project, halfway through to having an actual paperback and e-book, only now do we get to do some writing. Maybe in the olden days, you could just get out your quill pen on day one and craft a masterpiece, but now that you're taking on the production of the book, you have a lot of other concerns.
Apple's source for sapphire in Mesa, Arizona announced that its factory would be completing a conversion for "volume production" for its production machines shortly. GT Advanced Technologies announced the shift in their quarterly results, stating that the construction for the facility would be completed soon. Apple partnered with GT Advanced Technologies in November, investing in the company's expansion, which would in turn grant Apple exclusive supply rights.
Another employee at a Samsung manufacturing facility has died in an accident, following a gas leak by a malfunctioning safety system. An unnamed 52-year old worker at a plant owned by a Samsung manufacturing partner suffocated after the safety monitors wrongly detected a fire, releasing carbon dioxide into the local area to extinguish the non-existent flames.
Virtual reality headset manufacturer Oculus announced on February 19 that they were forced to halt production on further developer kits, as components needed to make the Rift are no longer being manufactured. An undisclosed number of units are still available, but further unit production will have to wait until the necessary components can be re-sourced.
An incident at a Samsung production facility has seen another set of employees injured. The leak of hydrofluoric acid gas at the processor plant in Hwaseong, Korea is the second incident of its kind in a four-month period, with the previous incident taking place at the same factory with the same leaked gas causing injury.
Upstream component suppliers for tablet PCs are making preparations to ramp up tablet production for the fall quarter. Combined demand for tablet PCs and iPads is expected to grow significantly over summer shipments. Digitimes sources claim around 13.5 – 14.5 million tablets will have shipped by the end of summer, which is set to increase to over 21 million in the next quarter.
Boinx has released BoinxTV 1.2, featuring a screen source capture for Skype or iChat video and a new widescreen template. BoinxTV is live production software that allows a Mac to be a TV studio, streaming live video to disk, the Internet or to a projector. It can record studio shows, podcasts, sports events, concerts and interviews via the Mac, and supports multiple cameras. Version 1.2 also adds chroma keying improvements and several new and enhanced layers.
In brief: AssistiveWare has announced that it will be previewing a few of its upcoming applications at the BETT show in London, England. There will be both new iPhone and Mac applications previewed at their booth (SN47) over the course of the event. ATTO has announced that it is beginning a partnership with Xyratex to offer a new video production tool at a more affordable price. Meanwhile, an Apple community member has created and released their own collection of Pages templates.
Boinx Software has launched BoinxTV 1.0, a live-production software solution for video podcasters. The software allows users to operate a TV studio from their Mac. BoinxTV can mix audio and video and record high-quality video from podcasts, sporting events, concerts and more, supporting up to three camera feeds. The interface allows a single user to choose templates and produce a live broadcast, with support for pre-recorded material, video camera inputs and microphone inputs, in a layering scheme that puts graphics and logos on top of the video feeds.
