Hands On: Copied and Copied+ 1.0 (OS X, iOS)

Neat cross platform clipboard manager

It's getting to be a more common and a much more crowded class of app: the clipboard manager. We've long had it on OS X, we've more recently had it on iOS, now we're getting apps that work across the two. Select and copy something on your iPhone, paste it into a document back on your Mac. That's what these apps do and that's what Copied 1.0 for OS X and Copied+ 1.0 for iOS want to do better than anyone else.

Visually use and manage your clipboard history

There was a time when iOS didn't have copy and paste, yet despite Android users mocking us, we honestly weren't that fussed –- until we got it, and couldn't believe we'd functioned a single day without it. It's the same with clipboard managers for OS X: first you can barely register what the term means, you're that disinterested, but then you use one and, wallop, you're wondering why anyone would work without one. Yet people do, otherwise perfectly normal and sane people get through life without clipboard managers. Paste 1.1.0 could be the way to convince them, because it is a very visual clipboard manager: you see this and you understand right away.

Hands On: Clips 1.2 (iOS)

Updated clipboard manager is nearly a must

It's only a small point update from version 1.1.3 which we reviewed back in March, but the new Clips 1.2 adds a redesign and enough improvements that we reckon it moves from "very good" to "a must have." Well, nearly. There are still things we wish it could do, but every one of them is a specific limitation imposed by Apple's iOS.

An iOS clipboard manager you didn't know you needed

If you don't happen to know what a clipboard manager is, you need one. If you do and you've also tried out a couple, you know why you need it and you know just how hard it will be to make you give them up. Not to rub it in if you haven't tried one yet but they have been around for a very long time – or at least they have on Macs. With iPhone and iPads, it's really taken until iOS 8 for them to be possible. Clips is a free clipboard manager for iOS and it is just about as good as Apple allows it to be.

Corkboard "tricks out" your clipboard

Corkboard 1.0 beta release

A new Texas-based developer says he has found a way to build a better mousetrap, with an application that soups up the traditional clipboard. The clipboard is a staple of the Mac OS and a place to put stuff you want to copy or paste, but the new utility brings new functions: Ayluro Corkboard 1.0 runs alongside a users clipboard, providing additional tools to expand storage, organize data and retrieve items. Perhaps the handiest feature: it can be used to store copies of everything in the clipboard. So, for example, if a user were to store a block of text it wouldnt be lost if the writer accidentally copies something else to the clipboard.
