OLPC partners with Neonode to bring mutlitouch tech to educational notebooks

As expected, One Laptop Per Child's next ultra-affordable notebook will sport a multi-touch display, but it will be called the XO Touch and not XO-1.75. The technology will come thanks to a newly started partnership with Neonode. It will get a 7.5-inch display, according to SlashGear.


Swedish firm claims rights to US swiping gesture patent

Could undermine Apple legal position

A Swedish touchscreen technology firm, Neonode, says it has won a US patent covering a swiping gesture on touchscreen devices. The company notes that it first filed for the patent in 2002, and in fact got rights to it on January 10th, but is only now pursuing "friendly licensing" deals with various companies. The first target is Apple, which uses a similar gesture in several aspects of iOS, such as the slide-to-unlock command.

Neonod to show off Multi-Sensing zForce at MWC

Sweden's Neonode, known for its N2 phone and maker of mobile optical touch technology, will unveil a new Multi-Sensing feature for its own zForce touch tech at the Mobile World Congress show next week. The company promises a demonstration and a more augmented and profound user experience compared to modern multi-touch systems out there. The tech can be sold to hardware builders for their smartphones, tablets, in-car, and in-flight systems.


iPhone rival Neonode files for bankruptcy

Neonode today said that its core phone making division has filed for bankruptcy in its home country of Sweden. Best known for its N2 touchscreen phone, the company says it still has "great belief" in its technology but that the move is necessary to prevent the company from running out of money before it has time to grow. The parent company isn't directly affected but focuses only on developing and licensing the touchscreen technology at the root of its phones.


Neonode launches N2 in four new colors

Nenodoe N2 new colors

Sweden-based Neonode announced on Tuesday it will add four vibrant new colors to its N2 cellular phone. Originally offered only in black, Neonode's web store now offers the quad-band GSM phone in Lime (green), Azure (blue), Rubine (red) and Roza (pink). The phone features an optical 2-inch touchscreen with a programmed Neno user interface that uses various finger sweeps across the screen as shortcuts. It is not yet available in the US, but Neonode mentions the new colors are meant to help the company bring the phone to new markets as it attempts to boost sales.
