When Chromebooks hit the market back in 2011, consumers didn't know what to do with them. WaterField has announced the release of new sizes for two of its bags, designed to fit the previous and refreshed MacBook Pro Retina laptops. The new 15-inch Outback Solo will fit the 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina, and the new 13-inch Indy leather satchelfits the smaller Retina.
Origin PC has announced its new EVO15-S gaming laptop, as well as a Back to School promotion. The laptop is thin, with a width measuring 0.78 inches, and weighing 4.36 pounds. Featuring a fourth-generation Intel Core i7 Processor, 16GB of DDR3 memory, Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M 3GB discrete graphics and Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 sound, the 15-inch laptop manages up to four hours of battery life. The EVO15-S includes Bluetooth 4.0, a KillerNIC E2200 LAN connection and USB 3.0 connectivity. Its anti-ghosting backlit keyboard offers seven standard color choices, with the option to fully customize colors and zones. The laptop's exterior can also be customized with a variety of paint choices and etching options.
After a $30 million deal to provide Apple iPads to students at 47 campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District went sour, the district is now turning toward a hodgepodge of laptops and hybrid computers. HP has unveiled a series of business-oriented desktops and laptops today. The HP ProDesk 400 G1 series desktop was shown, which offers expandable desktop PC options that are claimed meet everyday business needs with enough room to grow. Additionally, the HP 200 G1 and HP 300 G1 notebooks debuted, which both deliver what the company calls "essential, business-class features with a low price of entry."
Mark Spoonaur of Laptop Mag published his thoughts on the latest 13-inch MacBook Air model Tuesday, giving the product four out of five stars. Battery life topped the list of favorable attributes as the MacBook Air lasted 9 hours and 34 minutes in Laptop's tests, a full hour and a half longer than its predecessor. In spite of not having the coveted Retina screen resolution, its screen's clarity and brightness was still praised. The 13-inch Air is one of the first ultraportable laptops to include HD5000 graphics, allowing for a high enough performance that gaming is feasible. In benchmark tests, the Air proved to be faster than the previous model, though some Windows 8 notebooks remain faster.
According to Japanese business daily The Nikkei, HP will move production of its consumer-oriented notebook computers for the Japanese market from China to its plant near Tokyo [subscription required]. The company says the goal of the change is to reduce delivery time, simplify logistics, and use the "Made in Japan" tag in its marketing. HP also switched production of its business laptops to the Akishima plant in August.
