Six, eight-core processor culls integrated GPU, adds 20MB L3 Cache
Intel is planning to release a version of Haswell processors for enthusiasts in the second half of 2014, according to details inside a leaked presentation. The enthusiast model, dubbed Haswell-E, will launch with options for six and eight-core processors and up to 20MB of L3 cache, and with continued support for Hyper Threading, will have as many as 16 logical cores.

Chipmaker will pay content providers a premium for new service
In order to get its new television service up and running, chipmaker Intel is offering the content providers rates as much as 75 percent higher than the traditional cable providers pay. Sources close to Intel's negotiations say the potentially higher rates are to be expected, as Intel would enter the television service market as a newcomer, and content providers typically charge a premium for operators with smaller user bases. Reuters reports that Intel is hoping to position its service at a premium level, but the outcome of its negotiations will likely have some impact on pricing.

Haswell fourth-generation Intel Core processors on new computers
In addition to enhancing existing consumer product lines, Dell announced a trio of new products at the Computex in Taiwan. New to Dell are the OptiPlex 9020 line, including an all-in-one -- the 21.5-inch S2240T with touchscreen monitor. Also announced was the Latitude E6540 laptop. Both computer lines are equipped with the new Intel Haswell fourth generation Core processor, and will be available later this summer.

First round of mobile processors all i7, quad core
Intel has revealed specifications for the "Haswell" chip line expected to launch this week. According to Intel, the new chips require less cooling, and draw less power than equivalently speedy Ivy Bridge processors available at retail now. The full line of Haswell chips, save one with a ball grid array, is expected to be seen at retail in the coming month.

Multiple reports make claim of Clover Trail+ in Samsung tablet
Samsung may be moving from ARM-based processors to one from Intel for the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, according to reports. An alleged agreement between Intel and Samsung will see the chip producer's Clover Trail+ architecture used in the tablet, which if true could be a massive coup for the chip producer in its efforts to be used in mobile devices.

Capacitors supports 10k recharge cycles
An 18-year-old student, Eesha Khare, has reportedly developed a new form of energy storage, referred to as a supercapacitor, that promises to recharge a cellphone in 20 to 30 seconds. The research project landed Khare a $50,000 scholarship and an Intel Foundation Young Scientists Award at the Intel-sponsored International Science and Engineering Fair, along with a $5,000 "best of category" award and another $3,000 prize in the chemistry division.

NEC LaVie first to tout Intel 'Haswell' CPUs, beats Intel to the punch
The NEC LaVie L has surfaced on the NEC Japan website and is one of the first notebooks to feature Intel’s next-generation ‘Haswell’ processors. The new chips will carry the ‘Core’ branding and will be available in Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 variants as it has in its previous three generations. NEC has ‘jumped the gun’ somewhat in revealing the specs of the new notebook with Intel not expected to formally launch the chips until Computex Taipei in early June.

Intel will not fabricate Apple ARM-based chip designs
Intel CEO Paul Otellini has poured cold water on recent speculation that it will fabricate ARM-based chips for Apple, reports CNet. An earlier report by Reuters indicated that the two companies had entered talks on the possibility, however, Otellini’s comments seem to suggest that a straight-forward chip fabrication deal is not on the table. In taking a question on the subject at Tuesday’s conference call, Otellini answered with a point blank, ‘No.’

Falcon Ridge products slated for 2014

Early Haswell devices will use the flawed chips despite problem
Following some earlier reports, Intel has confirmed a bug exists in the silicon of its next-generation Core processor dubbed "Haswell." The bug can cause USB 3.0 devices to vanish after entering a low power state, with the device generally having to be disconnected and reconnected for the file structure to reappear.

US District Court Judge Lucy Koh has denied class action status for workers wanting to sue several major technology and film companies over anti-job poaching practices, Reuters reports. The plaintiffs have accused Adobe, Apple, Google, Lucasfilm, Intel, Intuit, and Pixar of conspiring not to poach workers from each other. While such practices might help stabilize corporate environments, they also reduce the need for employers to compete with each other on wages and benefits.

Intel gives developers new tools to boost GPU performance in Haswell
Intel has used the 2013 Game Developers conference to debut two new DirectX extensions designed to enable better gaming capabilities from the integrated graphics cores in its forthcoming 22nm ‘Haswell’ chips. Asus to add second Intel Atom-powered device by June
Asus is set to launch an Intel Atom-powered smartphone, joining Lenovo and Motorola who have both also experimented with Intel’s Clovertrail x86-based chips in their devices. Intel in talks with Apple on mobile chip fabrication
Intel has been in discussions with Apple to fabricate its ARM-based A-series designs, reports Reuters. The first Intel Atom-powered ‘phablet’ is set to debut at Mobile World Congress, according to Digitimes. New facility to create 800 full-time jobs, manufacture 14nm chips
Intel has received permission to build a new processor fabrication facility in Ireland, after receiving the go-ahead from Irish planning agency An Bord Pleanála. Intel motherboard production to end, more post-PC fallout
In a sign of the changing PC landscape following the arrival of the Apple iPad, Intel has outlined plans to ramp down its production of desktop motherboards, reports Anandtech. The arrival of the next-generation Intel Haswell platform will be the last series where Intel will develop desktop motherboards to complement its own line of chips. Existing Pentium, Celeron lines replaced with new processors
Over the weekend, Intel added seven CPUs to its budget line of Ivy Bridge-based processors. Seven new models have been added to the Pentium and Celeron lines. Intel has reported its quarterly and annual earnings, posting decreases year-over-year in most aspects, but still beating analyst's estimates in some areas. Intel claims limited resources for approving accessories
Licensing issues at Intel are keeping the number of Thunderbolt accessories low, says ArsTechnica. Although more accessories should be en route soon, several vendors claim that Intel has been picking a relative handful of companies to work with in order to ensure products meet certification demands. Razer has been showing off the Razer Edge, a new gaming tablet powered by Intel and Nvida technology, at CES so Electronista took the time to stop by and check it out. Based on the Project Fiona platform announced at CES 2012, the Edge is a Windows 8 tablet that has been designed to offer a full PC gaming experience in a portable form factor. The base configuration ail sport an Intel Core i5 processor as well as an Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics card, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. Cloud-based TV, DVR service could launch mid-2013
A project by Intel to roll out a virtual cable TV service with per-channel subscriptions and a cloud-based DVR service has hit longer delays than previously thought, with the negotiations with media companies being the main cause. Recent reports suggest that the discussions pushed the service's potential launch from the end of 2012 to mid-2013 or as late as the fourth quarter.
