ATTO Xtend SAN iSCSI
In addition to demoing its FastStream RAID controller, ATTO has updated its iSCSI Software Initiator for Mac OS X/Xtend SAN with new enterprise-class features to provide better security and automation for medium- to large-installations. Xtend SAN now supports HeaderDigest and DataDigest with error level 1 processing -- which is used to guarantee the integrity of iSCSI header data. The new Xtend SAN Command Line Interface (CLI) enables almost complete automation of iSCSI target management. According to the company, this benefits larger installations where there is a need to execute commands in script or batch modes from workstations with minimal to no user interaction is required.

abcSAN iSCSI for Leopard
Small Tree Communications has announced plans to launch its abcSAN iSCSI initiator for Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The company said it will deliver its iSCSI initiator software with Adaptec Snap Server networked storage hardware as a complete backup solution for Mac customers. Backing up several Mac computers to a Snap Server eliminates the need to purchase several external hard drives and manage them individually, according to its partner Adaptec. Small Tree's abcSAN software allows Macs to utilize the iSCSI protocol to store their backups on Adaptec's Snap Server network attached storage systems, which can store and share files and provide dedicated storage for application servers or as part of a backup to disk solution. The appliances can securely communicate with each other to integrate distributed enterprise locations and come in a wide variety of sizes.

Nexsan SATABeast Xi
Nexsan today unveiled the SATABeast Xi, an energy-efficient, high-density storage solution optimized for use with Xserve and Mac Pro computers. The 4U rackmount offers up to 42TB of storage, which take advantage of AutoMAID technology – MAID stands for Massive Array of Idle Disks. This allows the SATABeast to conserve energy and prolong disk life, while still maintaining almost instantaneous access to user data. SATABeast Xi includes fibre channel and iSCSI connectors, making it platform independent, and uses a Mac OS X-like interface for customization. Nexsan will ship the drive array in March, with prices starting at $1200 per Terabyte.
