This week in the MacNN forums, members were discussing the recent jailbreak for iOS 7 -- with some members saying they've already used it with no issues, others saying they wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole due to potential security compromises. Today, Grizzled Veteran "And.reg" was looking for FedEx drop boxes on Apple Maps, and was unable to find any even though there are a few in town according to the FedEx website, and was wondering how to change this or contact Apple about it.
Aereo, a cloud-based DVR company, has announced the upcoming availability of its television services in the Detroit metropolitan area, beginning October 28, 2013. Using web browsers, iOS devices, Android devices, and more, Aereo allows users to access 'over-the-air' television channels via an internet connection, that could once be attained with 'bunny ear' antenna over top of one's TV. Aereo's antenna are located in data centres for serviceable areas, which also include a remote DVR. Users control both with an Internet-connected device, and can view, record, pause, fast-forward and rewind as one would with a cable or satellite DVR.
As planned, Apple has released iOS 7 via iTunes and as an over-the-air update. The firmware gives iOS a radically new look, and adds numerous features, such as Control Center, AirDrop, Activation Lock, iTunes Radio, and a new multitasking motif. To install the OS, people must be using at least an iPhone 4, iPad 2, or fifth-generation iPod touch.
