AT&T is bringing out a Wi-Fi hotspot its customers can install into their vehicles, saving passengers from having to use tethering on their mobile devices or from carrying around a separate hotspot. The FCC has been petitioned by Marriott and an association of hotel owners to allow the jamming of Wi-Fi hotspots, usually set up by guests, on their premises for reasons of "managing Wi-Fi networks and security." Data-focused virtual carrier Karma has unveiled an upgraded version of its portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Just as it promised late last year, the Karma Go is a compact device which replaces its existing WiMax connection with one using Sprint's LTE network, a move which should provide customers with a larger coverage area to use the hotspot within.
Following on from the original Unite, AT&T will be launching a new mobile hotspot later this week, one that takes advantage of the carrier's 4G LTE network. The AT&T Unite Pro offers the ability to connect up to 15 devices simultaneously to the same cellular connection, with its battery able to provide up to 16 hours of use on one charge, as well as being able to top up the battery on mobile devices using its USB port.

Sprint has announced it will be shipping its first tri-band 4G LTE devices later this week. The Netgear Zing Mobile Hotspot, the Netgear 341U USB Modem, and the the Novatel MiFi 500 will be shipping on the carrier from July 19th, with all three able to use the 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz spectrum bands, as well as the 800MHz range due to be repurposed from the now-ceased Nextel network later this year.

Google prevails in UK street mapping case
Possibly setting the stage for other court battles in the UK, a High Court fight between Google and StreetMap.EU has concluded in Google's favor. StreetMap.EU claimed that Google's dominance in the field destroyed the 20-year-old firm's business, when Google started promoting its own service in search results over the older company's -- the judge disagreed. Commercial director Kate Sutton said after the judgment that "StreetMap has been frozen in time; because of what Google did, StreetMap has not been able to properly invest in the website since 2007." An appeal is planned. http://bloom.bg/1KKhECt
