Chain has had NFC compatibility previously, will upgrade new locations as well
In addition to sandwich chain Panera Bread and Subway, and fast food king McDonald's, some 860 branch locations of sub sandwich chain Firehouse Subs will now officially begin accepting Apple Pay starting today. Apple Pay allows users to pay for food by simply holding the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to a terminal while holding the Touch ID button on the devices. The franchise is hoping to more than double the number of locations it has in the US to over 2,000 by 2020.
AT&T increases number of markets with HD Voice enabled
AT&T has expanded its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and HD Voice service into more markets. The carrier's higher-quality voice calls are now available to use in parts of the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin, though customers will require a VoLTE-compatible smartphone.
Caviar purchase fills out Square restaurant service range
Payment processing service Square has acquired a food delivery service. The purchase, estimated to be worth around $90 million in stock, sees Square take control of Caviar, a start-up delivery firm which allows restaurants and other food-related establishments to offer deliveries of orders to customers, even if the business does not typically offer any delivery service at all.
