RS, Farnell manufacturing 4,000 Raspberry Pi's per day
Restrictions on Raspberry Pi orders have been lifted, enabling customers to place bulk orders. According to the official Raspberry Pi blog, both RS Components and element14/Premier Farnell have stopped restricting Raspberry Pi sales on a one-per-customer basis, opening the door to quantity orders for the in-demand credit-card-sized computer.
Element 14 surpasses 100k RaspBerry Pi orders
Raspberry Pi's tiny $35 Model B computer, which recently began shipping, has surpassed more than 100,000 orders maker element14 reported on Wednesday. While it was originally due to ship in February, a number of delays meant element14 was only recently able to resume production in full force. Orders placed on or before April 18 will arrive by the end of June, while those received after won't ship until July.
Ben Heck makes a 100-disc changer for Xbox 360
Element 14's Ben Heck, known for his creative hardware mods of electronic gadgets, has now built a game changer out of an old home theater CD changer for the Xbox 360. To achieve this, he used an old 100-disc Sony unit that brought the discs to the player. He then modified it to take the discs to the Xbox 360's disc drive.
Ben Heck builds wind-up charger for Android phone
In the latest episode of The Ben Heck Show on element14, modder Ben Heckendorn has built a kinetic wind-up charger for Android phones. For the project, Heck used a wind-up flashlight and a micro USB adapter, along with some solder, a Zener diode and a 10Ohm resistor. The total cost for the parts required is reported to be under $10.
