Amazon cuts Kindle, Paperwhite price by $10 in Canada

Amazon has dropped the price for some of its Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite e-readers in Canada. The standard Kindle has dropped from $89 to $79, while the Paperwhite version, with its lighter screen and built-in light, sells for $129 instead of $139. The 3G-enabled version of the Kindle Paperwhite remains at $199.

Whispersync for Voice, Time-to-Read reaches discontinued ereader

Amazon has released a firmware update for the Kindle Touch e-reader, effectively turning it into a Kindle Paperwhite, the device's successor. Update 5.3.2 includes a number of changes and features to the onboard software, including a new user interface, enhanced parental controls, and the ability to navigate graphic novels and comics.

Kobo targets Brazilian market with Livraria Cultura deal

Livraria Cultura to sell Kobo devices below Kindle costs

Kobo will partner with major Brazilian bookseller Livraria Cultura to sell its e-readers and ebooks. The e-reader manufacturer confirmed the partnership in a blog post last Friday. The deal will give Kobo a foothold in the burgeoning Brazilian e-reader market, which has seen increased attention from the major digital reader and e-book retailers over the past year.

Kobo updates e-readers with E Ink and IPS tech

Kobo has revamped its e-reader lineup adding three fresh devices to its lineup. The headliner is an Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ 7-inch tablet it calls the Arc that is available in 8GB ($200) and 16GB ($250) flavors. The new device is powered by a TI OMAP 4470 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, while it centers on a 1280x800 IPD LCD display.

Barnes & Noble launching UK Nook in October

Aims to take on Kindle with unknown UK retail partner

Barnes & Noble is planning to launch its Nook e-reader line and digital bookstore in the United Kingdom later this year. Online sales through a UK-specific website are to be supported by retail sales from mid-October onwards, in time for the Christmas holiday period. It will face stiff competition from the long-established Amazon Kindle line and WH Smith-supported Kobo e-reader.
