Pair of devices aimed at mid-range market
On Wednesday, Sony Europe officially revealed a pair of new digital cameras. The first model is the APS-C NEX-3N interchangeable lens camera, which has a 16.1MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and is Sony's entry-level mirrorless camera. The second model, the A58, is a 20.1MP APS HD CMOS device that utilizes A-mount lenses, and offers translucent mirror technology.
ELPH 330 HS, ELPH 115 IS, A2500 added to consumer camera line
Canon has announced the addition of three stylish, feature-packed PowerShot digital cameras to its line of imaging products. Newly added are the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS, ELPH 115 IS, and A2500. The PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera provides advanced wireless connectivity for easy sharing, and includes the company’s HS System that delivers clear images with minimal noise and maximum detail even when shooting in low light. Canon's Smart Auto feature allows the new cameras to detect up to 58 scene types for the PowerShot ELPH 330 HS digital camera, and up to 32 scene settings for the PowerShot ELPH 115 IS digital camera and PowerShot A2500 digital camera. All three models also feature "eco-mode," a new power consumption management technique that extends battery life by approximately 30 percent.
Inventor won Nobel Prize for work on imaging
Willard Sterling Boyle, a physicist credited with pioneering the CCD sensor for imaging devices such as digital cameras, recently died at a hospital near his home in Wallace, Nova Scotia, at the age of 86. Boyle worked with fellow Bell Laboratories scientist George E. Smith in the fall of 1969 to invent the charge-coupled device as a possible technology for computer memory.
Sony's Webbie HD cameras
Just ahead of CES, Sony took the opportunity to unveil two new cameras designed to capture and upload MP4 video and photos directly to the Web. The MHS-CM1 and MHS-PM1 Webbie HD cameras capture high-definition video (1440x1080/30p) and 5-megapixel still photos and automatically connect to websites via USB connection to your PC> The software makes it possible to quickly upload content online in a few simple clicks. Sony offers two portable designs in three colors—-eggplant, orange and silver.

Lightroom, RAW updates
Adobe today announced updates to Photoshop Lightroom and the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in. Available immediately as free upgrades for Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4 users, the releases provide added raw file support for 15 digital cameras including the Nikon D90, Nikon D700, Canon EOS 50D and Canon EOS 1000D. The Lightroom 2.1 update also includes improvements to Photoshop integration, Web module stability for Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit operating systems, performance with 64-bit Mac OS X 10.5 Macintosh computers, and Keyword migration from Lightroom. Samsung NV9, NV100 HD
Samsung on Tuesday unveiled two digital cameras: the NV100 HD pocket digital camera with an impressive 14.7 megapixel resolution and the NV9 pocket camera with 10.2MP. The Samsung NV100 HD boasts a 3-inch touchscreen, 3.6x Schneider Kreuznach zoom lens, face recognition features, smile and blink detection, and up to ISO 3200 sensitivity. In addition, the camera's tin CCD records images with up to 4,384 x 3,288px resolution, allowing it display HD resolution on HDMI-compatible HD displays (via the optional docking station). The camera can also record HD video with 720p resolution (1,280 x 720px) at 30fps.
BenQ's new digital cameras
BenQ on Wednesday unveiled three new digital cameras with the DC C750 and DC C850 from the company's Compact & Classical range along with the DC E800 in the Elegant & Stylish range. The 8-megapixel E800 incorporates a 2.7-inch LCD screen and is able to shoot 640x480-pixel 15fps video or 30fps MJPEG movie format at half the resolution. The 3x optical zoom camera has a maximum low-light sensitivity setting of ISO 1600.
Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS
At the Photo Marketing Association Show (PMA), Eastman Kodak added the EasyShare Z1012 IS Digital Camera - with 10-megapixel resolution and 12X optical zoom with optical image stabilization - to its line of Kodak EasyShare Consumer Digital Cameras. On the heel of two other EasyShare introductions at CES earlier this month, the compact Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS camera features a high ISO (up to 3,200), a suite of exclusive features what it claims is "best in class" click-to-capture speed and auto-focus accuracy as well as smart capture technology that automatically identifies the scene and adjusts the settings to deliver an optimized picture in virtually any environment. , according to the company and advanced settings such as program, aperture and shutter priority, as well as full manual mode (PASM).
Fuji debuts new cameras
Fujifilm on Friday unveiled several new digital cameras, including its SLR-styled 18x ultra-zoom S81000fd, the new 10MP FinePix Z20fd with new colors and video technology, the 12MP FinePix F100fd with ISO equivalency speeds up to 12800, and its most advanced consumer model: the FinePix S100FS with advanced dSLR control and functionality.
