More work needed; work on privacy overhaul continues

Facebook has passed a review by the governing body that regulates the social network's privacy policy and failures ouside of North America. Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner ordered Facebook to conduct a privacy overhaul for its users outside the United States and Canada after an investigation found its privacy policies were too convoluted and lacked transparency to governing agencies and users.

Trend Micro has launched Smart Surfing for Mac, offering identity and personal data protection when users shop, bank and explore online. The software blocks IM and e-mail links that lead to dangerous websites, guarding against phishing scams aimed at grabbing confidential information. Parental controls are included, which can restrict access by content, limit IM and chat access or block sites parents deem off-limits.
