Three recent appearances by leading Apple executives have provided further insight into their views on a variety of topics, ranging from Tim Cook's desire to be a role model to Sir Jonathan Ive's remembrances of Steve Jobs to music executive Jimmy Iovine's dislike of "freemium" music services. Ive and Iovine were interviewed as part of a conference hosted by Vanity Fair, while Cook was honored by the Human Rights Campaign last week for his position as a role model for LGBT youth as well as his efforts to promote diversity and equality in general.
Tech and major US companies will meet with their Chinese counterparts as part of a delegation joining Chinese President Xi Jinping as part of his first US visit, at a conference in Seattle. Among those who will meet with the Chinese leader are Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Disney chief (and Apple board member) Bob Iger, and Bershire Hathaway founder Warren Buffett. Chinese executives from many of China's largest tech firms, such as Alibab, Baidu, and Tencent, will also be present at the meeting.
Following on the heels of a planned appearance at cloud storage company Box's BoxWorks conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook will also return as a guest speaker at the mid-October WJD.D Live conference in Laguna Beach, California. While Cook's specific day and time have not yet been announced, he will likely again be the subject of a Q&A session as he was last year with Wall Street Journal Managing Editor Gerry Baker. Meanwhile, Apple Design Chief Sir Jonathan Ive has given an interview to the WSJ with Hermés Artistic Director Pierre-Alexis Dumas over the two companies' new Apple Watch collaboration.
On Friday, lucky recipients started receiving emails that they had been selected at random in a ticket lottery to register for the company's annual Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, which will start on June 8. The ticket lottery was required due to the incredible growth of Apple's iOS and OS X developer programs, which have nearly-instantly sold out over the last few years, and the company's desire to continue the conference at Moscone West, which allows for a total of 5,350 attendees, not counting press or the 1,000 Apple engineers who will be on hand.
Apple CEO Tim Cook will again be a speaker at this afternoon's Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, taking place in San Francisco. Cook will be among numerous tech company speakers, including executives from Seagate, NetApp, SanDisk, AMD, ZenDesk, and Jive Software, among others. Cook will address the conference at 12:30PM PT (3:30PM ET) today, and the audio stream is being carried live by Apple on its investor web page.
The first Aces Conference - an independent event for Apple consultants -- is set to be held May 20-21. Located in New Orleans, the inaugural Aces Conference will focus on offering attendees support and information regarding improving a consulting businesses. Some of the speakers confirmed include Victor Agreda Jr. of TUAW.com, and keynote speakers Jeff Gamet of Mac Observer and Jason Womack of GetMomentum.com.
Following the release of its own diversity report that found its female involvement in engineering and other technology posts lacking, Apple and other tech companies is said to have sent "hundreds" of employees to answer questions and recruit potential employees at the current Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing gathering in Phoenix, Arizona. Facebook, Google, Microsoft were among the other companies represented at the conference, which had over 8,000 attendees.
Newer Technology has announced a new 5TB+5TB capacity for its Guardian Maximus line of dual-bay external storage, adding storage capacity and throughput to any Mac or PC with USB 3.0 eSATA, FireWire 800, or FireWire 400. Plug and Play ready in RAID-1 mode for "mirrored" data across two drives, if one drive fails, the other drive holds all data intact and allows the system to remain functioning. Upon replacing the failed drive, the new one automatically mirrors to provide data redundancy. The 5TB+5TB model of the Guardian Maximus is priced at $780.
Conference organizer IDG has opened the doors to the second annual Macworld Asia, a trade show featuring local and international vendors of Apple accessories, keynote speeches, an exhibition floor and developer forum. Exhibitors familiar to North American Macworld attendees included Logitech, LaCie and Macally, according to a report from The Next Web. The show is similar to its US counterpart, with award ceremonies, showcases and product demos.
Apple CEO Tim Cook will address the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco tomorrow, February 14th, with Apple providing an audio webcast of the presentation. While video or audio recordings of Apple executives speaking at industry conferences are not unheard of, it is unusual for Apple itself to be hosting a live broadcast of its CEO speaking to an industry group. Cook is expected to discuss Apple's financial performance.
