Recent PC-to-Mac switcher Ari Meisel wanted an elegant way to wall-mount his Mac mini behind his wall-mounted screen, so he designed one. The pair of plastic mounting brackets go by the name of MiniB, and Meisel hopes to turn the design into a fully-fledged product with funding from Kickstarter, a crowd-source venture capital operation.
Other World Computing has launched new Multi-Mount hard disk mounting kits for Mac Pros and PowerMacs. The new brackets are custom engineered and use hard rubber dampers, reducing noise and vibration, between the bracketed drives and the Mac case. They are made of high-grade aluminum and designed to fit smaller drives into the Mac's spare optical 5.25-inch bays, such as a 3.5-inch drive into a 5.25-inch bay. OWC is launching seven different brackets, with three of the brackets specific to Mac Pros. The two Mac Pro kits come with power and SATA cables. With the kits, users can add a 2.5-inch drive -- or SSD -- to a 3.5-inch bay, or a pair of 2.5- or 3.5-inch drives in a 5.25-inch bay.
Axiom Audio has announced the availability of its special edition Axiom Garage Speaker—a bookshelf unit. The device is tread-patterned, brushed silver exterior, and is comprised of a 1" titanium tweeter and 6.5" aluminum woofer, each speaker features anti-standing-wave cabinetry and vortex porting. The speakers will play with as little as a 10-watt amplifier, or can handle as much as 175 watts of input power. Axiom Garage Speakers also include a threaded mounting receptacle that accepts most speaker brackets including the company’s Full Metal Bracket. For horizontal mounting situations, Axioms Ceiling Bracket can be used. Axiom Garage Speakers are priced at $375 per pair.
Sonnet Technologies today unveiled the MacCuff mini, a VESA-compliant mounting bracket for the Mac mini, compatible with both VESA 75 and 100 mounting systems. The steel bracket works for any model of Mac mini, allowing it to be secured to a desk, mounting arm, backside of an LCD monitor, among other places. Sonnet sells the MacCuff mini with DVI to VGA extension cable for $50, and is currently available at retailers nationwide.
