Extensis is launching a new digital asset management (DAM) system tomorrow, Extensis Portfolio. Aiming to provide a more affordable system for companies of all sizes, Extensis Portfolio allows users to holds millions of assets in one catalog or several, and can be used by multiple departments. Companies can choose what they will use with Portfolio's modular platform, with options for mobile DAM, single sign-on, web portals and more. The system's new "Restful" API provides simple integration with other third-party applications, such as eCommerce Systems, collection managements systems, and web content management systems.
In tribute to Steve Jobs, Robert Mather has started Wear Black for Steve Day, a social media movement that invites people to thank the visionaries that they appreciate. The one-day event is scheduled for October 14th, one week after Steve's private funeral, and asks participants to show their appreciation by wearing a black shirt and a name tag that displays a visionary's name. Mather also encourages participants to RSVP for the event via Facebook, as well as share their photos and videos from the event online.
Minder Softworks has brought out a new digital asset management (DAM) application for the Mac called Stock Keeper the combines a stock images search engine and browser with a full portfolio and digital asset manager. The program comes with connections to 28 popular sources of online media, but users can customize the list as they like. It also supports adding tags, notes and license information to stored images.

The new version also sports support for Active Directory, and offers a faster media engine cluster. The program offers complete asset management of images, audio, video and other media files.
SeeFile Software has launched SeeFile 4.7, updating its digital asset management software with an optimized interface and full support for Firefox 3.5, Safari 4 and Internet Explorer 8. The software is geared towards small to mid-sized companies, tracking digital media like images, PDFs and video, and organizing and distributing the media online. SeeFile monitors shared folders and volumes, tracking any changes in the file structure, and updating its database and web interface to synchronize with the file structure changes. It also automatically renders previews and imports metadata.
Canto has released Canto Cumulus 7.6.1, adding over 130 improvements and fixes to the digital asset management software. Cumulus now can send automated e-mail notifications category assignments are changed, providing improved project-management tracking. Metadata support has been upgraded to include Microsoft's Visio files, while InDesign CS4 is also supported via a new plug-in. Version 7.6.1 adds Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) capability and brings Cumulus web-client features closer to Mac and Windows native clients.
