Leaked AMD mobile platform roadmaps from German forum board 3D Center reveal that the Llano chip replacement, Trinity, is due to begin shipping in the winter of 2012, among other tidbits. There will be four specific models of the chip offered, though no specifics are available yet. A Bulldozer-based Piledriver core will be the basis, which will also underpin the company's upcoming AMD FX-series of processors.
HP has brought out the Compaq 100B Small Form Factor Business PC. The 100B incorporates an AMD Fusion-based E-350 1.6 GHz dual-core chip with an integrated AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics processor to give it uncharacteristically fast graphics for the size. Built around a micro ITX motherboard, the 100B takes up about half the space of a traditional ATX or mini-ATX based business desktop.
Sony is now shipping its VAIO YB netbooks in the US. The computer we tried at CES sports an 11.6-inch, 720p display and is powered by a 1.6GHz AMD Fusion processor that gives it 1080p video and faster 3D than Intel CULV notebooks in the class. A stock configuration comes with 4GB of RAM onboard, along with a 500GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI output and Ethernet.
Two mainboards were leaked online on Wednesday thanks to EXPreview, both with AMD's Zacate chip. The two mainboards are from Gigabyte and Soyo, and the Zacate E350 chip common to both sports a clock speed of 1.6GHz with an integrated Radeon HD 6310 graphics core. It will be designed for low-power desktops and nettops with just a peak 18W of power.
At a recent event to which it invited HardOCP, AMD has revealed more specs on its upcoming Brazos architecture chips, including the Bobcat. The chips are further divided into Ontario and Zacate codenames, both of which are ultra low power units meant for notebooks and desktops priced at under $500. The chips are from the Fusion family, meaning they have both a CPU and a GPU on the same die.
Intel's Developer Forum should be the first chance at seeing working examples of both Intel- and AMD-made processors with fully built-in graphics. The host of the event is expected to show Sandy Bridge just ahead of its ship date. While it still has yet to confirm most of the details, the desktop chips will range between 2.5GHz dual and 3.4GHz quad models with graphics fast enough to beat entry dedicated video for the first time in an Intel chip.
AMD in the wrap-up of the IFA show detailed a new processor based on its Fusion hybrid CPU and graphics combos that would be targeted at a larger class of system than the netbook-oriented Ontario. Zacate will consume twice as much energy at 18W, likely due to a higher clock speed, but will be fast enough to drive ultraportable and budget notebooks as well as all-in-one and small desktops. It will have twin cores based on the Bobcat architecture and should be paired with graphics in the chip that can support DirectX 11 (OpenGL 4) 3D effects, hardware 1080p decoding and OpenCL.

Cirrus creates Lightning-headphone dev kit
Apple supplier Cirrus Logic has introduced a MFi-compliant new development kit for companies interested in using Cirrus' chips to create Lightning-based headphones, which -- regardless of whether rumors about Apple dropping the analog headphone jack in its iPhone this fall -- can offer advantages to music-loving iOS device users. The kit mentions some of the advantages of an all-digital headset or headphone connector, including higher-bitrate support, a more customizable experience, and support for power and data transfer into headphone hardware. Several companies already make Lightning headphones, and Apple has supported the concept since June 2014. http://bit.ly/29giiZj

Apple employees testing wheelchair features
New features included in the forthcoming watchOS 3 are being tested by Apple retail store employees, including a new activity-tracking feature that has been designed with wheelchair users in mind. The move is slightly unusual in that, while retail employees have previously been used to test pre-release versions of OS X and iOS, this marks the first time they've been included in the otherwise developer-only watchOS betas. The company is said to have gone to great lengths to modify the activity tracker for wheelchair users, including changing the "time to stand" notification to "time to roll" and including two wheelchair-centric workout apps. http://bit.ly/2955JDa

Twitter stickers slowly roll out to users
Twitter has introduced "stickers," allowing users to add extra graphical elements to their photos before uploading them to the micro-blogging service. A library of hundreds of accessories, props, and emoji will be available to use as stickers, which can be resized, rotated, and placed anywhere on the photograph. Images with stickers will also become searchable with viewers able to select a sticker to see how others use the same graphic in their own posts. Twitter advises stickers will be rolling out to users over the next few weeks, and will work on both the mobile apps and through the browser. http://bit.ly/29bbwUE
