The high-end Sony Xperia GX smartphone is now available at NTT DoCoMo. It sports a 720p-resolution display sized at a generous 4.6 inches. There is a slight curve to the handset, just like in the Xperia Arc.
Sony Ericsson just revealed it will begin updating the software on its 2011 Xperia smartphones to Android 4.0 by the end of March and into April. These will include the Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, and Xperia ray. About a month after that, the Xperia arc, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, and Live with Walkman will get the same update.
Sony is now offering developers a chance to sign up for consideration on joining its closed beta PlayStation Suite SDK. With it, they will have the ability to develop games for the upcoming PS Vita and Android devices that aren't Sony-branded. The SDK uses the C# programming language and will run on a C# virtual machine.
A picture has surfaced from China of the rumored Sony Ericsson Xperia duo. Although the authenticity of the phone is difficult confirm, it bares a resemblance to the Xperia arc, albeit with what appears to be a larger 4.5-inch edge-to-edge display. It is known that Sony Ericsson has trademarked the Xperia duo name, which is thought to refer to the inclusion of a dual-core processor. If so, it would be the first Sony Ericsson handset to sport dual-core power.
Details of an upcoming Sony Ericsson handset have been revealed recently thanks to GSMArena. Codenamed Urushi and ST18i officially, the device is said to sport an 854x480 3.2- or 3.3-inch touchscreen and the same hardware specs as the company's existing Xperia Arc. This means a 1GHz Snapdragon chipset housing a Scorpion CPU and Adreno 205 GPU.
LG has released a stop-motion video to help market the Optimus Black smartphone. The device is compared in a 'race' against other handsets, which appear to represent the iPhone, Samsung's Galaxy S, and Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc, though the competing devices uses nicknames. The company is highlighting the Black's 9.2mm thickness and 109g weight, while the 700-nit display is claimed to be 40 percent brighter than the rest of the group.
A new TV ad for Samsung's Galaxy S II handset (below) is focusing entirely on the phone's ultra-thin profile. At 8.49mm thin, it undercuts even the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc's 8.7mm thickness. The newest from Samsung will also sport an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. The Xperia Arc has a 4.2-inch screen, in contrast.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo has been delayed to summer and while the Xperia Arcand Xperia Play are facing shortages. The news comes via Sony Ericssonís Italian Facebook page, which explains that the delays and shortages are a result of the Japan earthquake.
Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play has edged closer to a release in the past day with two official appearances. Rogers has put up a pre-order page for both the Xperia Play and its more straightforward Xperia Arc sibling. Both of the Android 2.3 phones will cost $100 on a three-year contract.
Sony Ericsson has leaked one of its own upcoming smartphones, the Xperia acro. It was spotted among as series of its new phones displayed in its Sony Ericsson PC Companion software tool that ships with its new smartphones. In the image embedded below, it can be discerned that the phone is very similar to the recently released Xperia arc. According to the Xperia blog, the phone appears to be a minor revision of the Xperia arc that is designed to address shortcomings in that model.

Apple brings iTunes Movie Trailers app to Canada
After five years, Apple has expanded its iTunes Movie Trailers app for iOS to Canada. As of Saturday, the free app allows movie buffs to see HD movie trailers for new studio and independent features, and explore some other movie-related extras such as photos, behind-the-scenes footage, or clips from upcoming films. Apple expands CloudKit API, provides web interface
On Friday, Apple notified developers that it was expanding a feature of CloudKit to allow for server-to-server web service requests. "In addition to providing a web interface for users to access the same data as your app, you can now easily read and write to the CloudKit public database from a server-side process or script with a server-to-server key," Apple said in its announcement. Remote S for Tesla Apple Watch app drives car out
Developer Allen Wong has created the Remote S for Tesla app, which can be used to remotely activate the Model S electric car via an Apple Watch, and drive it a short distance. Aside from providing data about the car and some basic function controls, the unofficial app uses the manufacturer's Summon command to allow the car to turn on, exit the garage, and park near to the user's location. Seagate 3TB unreliability suit expands
The Seagate 3TB class-action hard drive lawsuit has been expanded to more devices. The expanded suit, filed today, now includes Seagate's Barracuda 3TB Hard Disk Drive,¬†Desktop HDD 3TB, Backup Plus 3TB External Hard Disk¬†Drive,¬†GoFlex 3TB External Hard Disk Drive, or any other Seagate hard drive with model number ST3000DM001. BlackBerry Canada, Florida hit with layoffs
The BlackBerry campus has reportedly been wracked with layoffs. Sources familiar with the company's Waterloo office staffing claim that close to 35 percent of the local workforce has been laid off, with the deepest cuts being made in the BlackBerry 10 OS and hardware teams. Additionally, the state of Florida has been officially notified that the company's Sunrise facility will see 75 people fired. Instagram tests multiple account support for iOS
Instagram is trialling support for multiple accounts in its iPhone app with a small number of users. The Facebook-owned photo sharing service confirmed the reports of the tests to TechCrunch, which will allow a single user to manage more than a single account within the app, transferring between two or three accounts with a few taps. Foxconn CEO declares Sharp deal near done
The Foxconn bid for Sharp is allegedly only waiting on specific details of the deal. Foxconn CEO Terry Gou has declared that his company has privileged negotiation rights for the Apple iPhone screen supplier, saying that "we have a consensus, the rest is a process ...
