Comcast is extending access to an app that allows users to stream from their mobile devices to an X1 DVR-ready set-top box to all subscribers. The app, Xfinity Share for iOS and Android, can be used to broadcast photographs, recorded videos, and live video streams from a smartphone to a suitable cable box, and it is also possible to share the stream with another subscriber's TV. Slashgear reports the app was originally available to just Triple Play package customers, but now it can be used by any Comcast voice, video, home, and Internet subscriber.
Just a few days after launching a streaming TV service, Comcast revealed it is working with EA on a game streaming service for its Internet customers, using their existing set-top box. Running through Comcast's X1 TV platform, Xfinity Games will stream game footage to customer cable boxes, allowing them to play a selection of games on their television, without needing to acquire a dedicated game console.
Comcast is finally joining the ranks of PlayStation Vue and Sling TV, in providing an Internet television subscription independent of a main cable subscription. Titled Stream, the service will offer customers live TV broadcasts to watch on their choice of device, including desktops, notebooks, tablets, and smartphones, though unlike its main competitors, there appear to be a few snags that may cause some potential customers to look elsewhere.
Comcast will be giving owners of Ultra HD televisions something to watch in the future, with the company revealing its upcoming Xi4 set-top box will be able to handle 4K-resolution content. The new cable box announcement is accompanied by other smaller items, including the ability to stream content from a smartphone or tablet to the device for viewing on the television.
Comcast is being sued by subscribers of its Internet service for hosting a public hotspot within their home. Joycelin Harris and Toyer Grear filed with the US District Court of Northern California over the company's decision to allow home routers to open up the routers of its own customers to other users, something the suit claims was performed without authorization and is a potential risk to systems on the home network.
Comcast subscribers in Houston will soon see a new secondary SSID broadcasting from their routers, as the company prepares to create more Wi-Fi hotspots. Approximately 50,000 Comcast routers in the area will begin to offer free "xfinitywifi" hotspot access to other Comcast subscribers, a move the company has previously tested and launched in other areas, despite the controversial nature of the program.
Today, Comcast announced the addition of 18 live streaming channels to its Xfinity TV Go service. Adds made today include A&E, Bravo, Cooking Channel, DIY Network, E!, Food Network, HGTV, HISTORY, mun2, Oxygen, Sprout, STARZ, Syfy, TBS, TNT, Travel Channel, truTV, and the USA Network. The adds bring the total amount of channels viewable on the app and online to 53.
Comcast has launched a service that sells movie and TV show streams and downloads to customers on set-top boxes, one that leaked late last week. The Comcast Xfinity TV Store extends Comcast's existing video-on-demand free and rental offerings with an option to have purchases permanently viewable in the future.
Comcast has expanded its Xfinity TV service to offer a prepaid version to customers. The pay-as-you-go cable service will provide users with a number of standard definition channels, including a mix of local and national channels, and provides a way for potential viewers to get cable TV without requiring to submit to a credit check nor provide a Social Security Number.

Google prevails in UK street mapping case
Possibly setting the stage for other court battles in the UK, a High Court fight between Google and StreetMap.EU has concluded in Google's favor. StreetMap.EU claimed that Google's dominance in the field destroyed the 20-year-old firm's business, when Google started promoting its own service in search results over the older company's -- the judge disagreed. Commercial director Kate Sutton said after the judgment that "StreetMap has been frozen in time; because of what Google did, StreetMap has not been able to properly invest in the website since 2007." An appeal is planned. http://bloom.bg/1KKhECt
