In the first 50 days since the Windows 8 Consumer preview launch, testers have doubled usage time over 2009's Windows 7 beta over the same period. The total amount of tester hours expended on the project is unknown.

Kobo one of the first to launch eReader app for W8

Kobo has announced that it will be one of the first eBook retailers to have an app featured in the Windows Store ready for the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The app is built on HTML 5 and Java Script and offers users a tailored central location where they can manage their Kobo reading experience across devices. The app also presents with users a revamped UI and a new library view offering easier search.

Windows Store available through consumer preview

Microsoft has announced that the Windows Store for Windows 8 is now open. The only way to access it is through the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, which is available for download (free, Microsoft). The Windows Store is presented in the Metro style. Both Microsoft and third-party apps are available. Featured apps, such as USA Today and Cut the Rope, are located in highly visible locations. All apps on Windows Store will be available for free for the duration of the Consumer Preview.

Win 8 Consumer Preview detailed, available

Alongside its live Windows 8 Consumer Preview at MWC, Microsoft has now released the latest OS for download. While the software is a work in progress and Microsoft warns users will see some hiccups, it's a chance to perfect it before its final release through user feedback. There won't be official support available to those who try the software either, though sharing problems on a dedicated forum is being encouraged.
