Wilson Electronics has updated its Sleek cellphone signal amplifier, adding support for 4G standards used by a wide range of carriers. Electronista took an early look at the Sleek 4G at a media event in Las Vegas ahead of CES, while we wait for the US and Canadian variants to arrive on the market.
The Federal Communications Commission is proposing to change the rules governing cell-signal boosters. The agency is considering a detailed set of specifications for signal amplifiers, along with new requirements for users on the largely unregulated industry, according to Computer World. The main concern from carriers is interference caused through a signal overlap from the amplifiers. Customers may be asked to inform carriers of booster use, while the hardware could be required to reduce its power or shut down when not needed.
Wilson Electronics has released an update to its original cradle cellphone signal booster with the Sleek 4G-V. The vehicle cradle now gets support for Verizon's 700MHz LTE signal to boost signal strength. The 800MHz and 1,900MHz 3G and 2G frequencies are also supported. The antenna in the amp is said to be 20 times more powerful as that found in the average smartphone.
