An upcoming entry-level handset from HTC, codenamed the Golf, has been outed by a test photo taken by its three-megapixel camera. Found by PocketNow, the image's EXIF data and other sources reveal the handset will ship with Android 4.0 onboard. The hardware specs are said to include a CPU with a clock speed of less than 1GHz and a 3.5-inch display with a 320x240 resolution.
Virgin Mobile's US branch committed itself to Android further with two new additions that each bring a first to the prepaid carrier. The LG Optimus Slider is considered a sequel to the almost unusually popular Optimus V and brings in its self-described QWERTY keyboard for frequent messaging. LG hasn't said what processor is inside, but it will come with Android 2.3, a 3.2-inch (likely 320x480) touchscreen, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
In addition to the upcoming HTC Hero S, US Cellular announced on Wednesday that the HTC Wildfire S smartphone and Flyer tablet will be made available at its stores in October. The Wildfire S is an entry-level smartphone and sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a five-megapixel camera. It is powered by Android 2.3 and HTC's Sense user interface.
An upcoming HTC handset, the Pico, has shown up online at XDA.cn. The device will be smaller than other HTC smartphones, with many of the hardware specs being shared with the Wildfire S. These include a 600MHz Qualcomm CPU, five-megapixel rear camera and a 3.2-inch, 480x320 touchscreen display.
Less than a week afterHTC's Wildfire S was confirmed for a T-Mobile launch, the handset has resurfaced in FCC documents that point to support for CDMA networks. Although other carriers have yet to announce launch plans for the device, the FCC approval suggests the handset is potentially being readied for Verizon, US Cellular or companies.
A spec sheet for the soon to be released T-Mobile HTC Wildfire S has surfaced. TmoNews has posted an image of the document and it confirms that the entry level smartphone will indeed be branded by its official HTC name and not "Marvel," an earlier codename. Leaks have shown the carrier should start shipping the phone on the 27th of this month.
