MeeGo head says LG signing on despite Nokia backing away

LG signs on to help make MeeGo for phones

MeeGo working group member Valtteri Halla on Friday said LG had picked up some of the slack in MeeGo phone development after Nokia relegated the OS to an experimental project. The Korean company had joined a coalition including carrier giant China Mobile as well as ZTE and others. Nokia's partial exit was "opening opportunities" for other firms to come in now that it wasn't dominated by one main company, he said.

Intel MWC to involve MeeGo phone and tablet

A behind the scenes sighting on Sunday of last-minute Mobile World Congress prep at the Fira de Barcelona confirmed that Intel plans to show a Atom-based MeeGo smartphone at the event on Monday. The unnamed device was seen in a building-sized promo image side-by-side with an unnamed tablet running a larger version of MeeGo. Neither was given a name by Meet MeeGo, but the phone may be Aava Core hinted at earlier.

MeeGo-powered WeTab confirmed for September 21

The WeTab tablet from Neofonie will reach the market on September 21, according to an Intel presentation at the currently ongoing Intel Developer Forum conference. The 11.6-inch tablet will use MeeGo 1.0 overlaid with a custom interface to enable touch input. The device uses Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N450 CPU and integrated graphics, and will also get Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1.
