Vuzix intros Augmented Reality video eyewear

March 25 - 4:30pm EDT   Vuzix on Wednesday at the Game Developers Conference demonstrated what it calls the first consumer Augmented Reality video eyewear. Comprised of the company's existing VR920 virtual reality video eyewear and a new augmented reality accessory kit developed in conjunction with metaio. Vuzix claims the technology will bring a new dimension to gaming, educational and business industries. For its demo, flat images in a book were seen in 3D by the wearer of the device. [full story]

Vuzix iWear AV310 Widescreen now shipping

February 20 - 11:10am EST   Vuzix on Thursday announced that its iWear AV310 Widescreen personal media viewer is now available. The device is worn by users like a set of eyeglasses and includes two tiny screens, one for each eye, which provide a 16:9 aspect ratio and have the ability to display 3D images. Each screen also has independent focal adjustments to accommodate different eyesight. The AV310 Widescreen plugs into iPhones, iPods, cameras, DVD players, video game consoles and other devices that have a composite video output for either NTSC or PAL. [full story]

Vuzix to show Wrap video glasses at CES

January 2 - 10:40am EST   Vuzix today said it would use CES next week to launch a substantially improved edition of its video glasses. The Wrap 920AV will reportedly tackle the problems of both appearance and viewing angles by following the design of traditional summer sunglasses. In addition to looking more like conventional eyewear, the Wrap will switch from the narrow display of before to a wider, more natural view that also shows some of the real scene in the background. Vuzix launches video glasses for console gamers

January 2 - 3:20pm EST   Vuzix this afternoon preempted CES by releasing a new set of its iWear video glasses tailored just to frequent console gamers. The AV920-C switches out the basic video inputs of most such glasses for inputs usable with modern consoles such as Sony's PS3 or the Nintendo Wii; beyond standard RCA, the new eyewear also packs component video for higher-quality analog sources and HDMI for purely digital signals from the PS3 or newer Xbox 360 systems. Although capped at a 640x480 resolution, the placement of the LCDs in the screen creates the equivalent of a 62-inch TV.
