Augmented reality device manufacturer Vuzix has put its own smart headwear on sale to the public, beating Google Glass to a general release. The M100 Smart Glasses, initially shown by the company late last year and previously only sold as part of a developer kit, takes after the Google device in providing a large amount of smartphone-like behavior into a head-mounted display.
Vuzix has launched its 1200AR augmented reality wearable display, aimed at professionals as well as enthusiasts. The device gives users a wide array of customization options to ensure the best fit and optimal clarity. It also creates the effect of viewing a 75-inch display from 10 feet away in up to 720p at 60Hz.
Vuzix has revealed its upcoming wearable computer. Competing with the similar-in-appearance Project Glass from Google, the Smart Glasses M100 seems to offer most of the usability of a smartphone in a wearable format. Connectable to an Android or iOS smartphone over BlueTooth and Wi-Fi, the M100 allows wearers to take calls, read text messages and e-mail, along with other standard tasks.
Vuzix has announced that its Tac-Eye LT, a rugged monocular display mounted on Oakley's SI Ballistic M-Frame 2.0 protective glasses, is now available for customers in Europe. The system integrates a small AMOLED display with 852x600 resolution, enabling users to view content from a wearable computer or other video sources.

Vuzix corporation has just released the Wrap 1200 3D video glasses. They connect to source devices and allow wearers to view 2D or 3D content in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The company said wearing the glasses is equal to looking at a traditional 75-inch display from just 10 feet away. There are two 852x480 LCD displays integrated into the glasses.
Vuzix at CES has brought out its latest video eyewear, the Wrap 920AR. Its design resembles a pair of sunglasses and enables users to create an augmented reality by displaying video in 3D. The device features a 67-inch display as seen from 10-feet away, and an integrated stereo camera pair that delivers a single 1504x480 stereoscopic 3D image. The device offers a 6-degree-of-freedom tracker for better accuracy as well as truer 3D positioning.
Vuzix on Wednesday at the Game Developers Conference demonstrated what it calls the first consumer Augmented Reality video eyewear. Comprised of the company's existing VR920 virtual reality video eyewear and a new augmented reality accessory kit developed in conjunction with metaio. Vuzix claims the technology will bring a new dimension to gaming, educational and business industries. For its demo, flat images in a book were seen in 3D by the wearer of the device.
Vuzix on Thursday announced that its iWear AV310 Widescreen personal media viewer is now available. The device is worn by users like a set of eyeglasses and includes two tiny screens, one for each eye, which provide a 16:9 aspect ratio and have the ability to display 3D images. Each screen also has independent focal adjustments to accommodate different eyesight. The AV310 Widescreen plugs into iPhones, iPods, cameras, DVD players, video game consoles and other devices that have a composite video output for either NTSC or PAL.
Vuzix today said it would use CES next week to launch a substantially improved edition of its video glasses. The Wrap 920AV will reportedly tackle the problems of both appearance and viewing angles by following the design of traditional summer sunglasses. In addition to looking more like conventional eyewear, the Wrap will switch from the narrow display of before to a wider, more natural view that also shows some of the real scene in the background.
