Hands On: Seavus Project Viewer 1.8 (OS X)

View Microsoft Project plans on Mac

The standard application for project managers is Microsoft Project for Windows, but there are two big reasons why you would buy something else: you're on a Mac, and Microsoft Project is expensive. As we said in our review of OmniPlan, a very good Mac-based project management application, even the price of MS Project is complicated. It ranges from $250-$850, but whatever price you get it at, you can count on it being too costly to buy for everyone who simply needs to view the plans. Seavus Project Viewer 1.8 is a Mac app that opens Microsoft Project files, and lets you examine them for the details you need.

FileMaker ships Bento

FileMaker on Tuesday announced the immediate availability of Bento, its easy-to-use personal database application. Designed exclusively for Mac OS X Leopard, Bento leverages a single-window interface and FileMaker database technology to help users organize contacts, calendars, projects, events, and more. Users can easily create databases to manage information with dynamic 'smart' collections as well as expand around Apple's own Address Book and iCal storage engines. Bento is priced at $50, or $100 for a family pack of five licenses. The personal database requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

SanDisk upgrades Clip and View players, flash cards

Clip 4GB and View 32GB

SanDisk today upgraded its Sansa jukeboxes, escalating the fight between flash-based music players. The Sansa Clip (shown at right) now doubles in storage to 4GB but also receives a stylized mirror finish; the effect not only brings the player upscale but creates a stealthy effect for the built-in LCD screen. The View in turn becomes SanDisk's most capacious-ever music player: at 32GB, it eclipses the iPod nano and touch and pulls even with the just-announced 32GB Creative ZEN in storage. More can be added through a microSDHC card slot.
