Latest threat fourth to Sarkeesian, cancels over security concerns
Anita Sarkeesian, the creator behind the Feminist Frequency videos on YouTube, was forced to cancel a speech at Utah State University (USU) on October 15 after the institution received several threats regarding her attendance. The biggest threat the university received claimed that "the deadliest school shooting in American history" would take place if she was allowed to speak at the Taggart Student Center.
Feature's coverage still expanding
Apple has extended coverage of Maps' Flyover feature to two more locations. The most important of these is the Japanese capital of Tokyo, where people can now see 3D views of scenery like the Tokyo Tower or the Imperial Palace. In the United States, Maps users can toggle Flyover for the canyons of Utah's Zion National Park.
Jersey store already under construction
Three new Apple Stores are on their way to Utah, Virginia, and New Jersey, say ifoAppleStore sources. Job listings for two of the stores appeared in May, but are said to have been intentionally vague or even misleading. One simply mentioned a store in "Salt Lake City;" ifo sources explain that the outlet is coming to the SLC suburb of Farmington, specifically to the Station Park mall near Interstate 15. Another listing pointed to the Virginia store being located in Manassas, but sources claim that it will actually open in Woodbridge, at the new Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center mall, which is still signing its initial tenants.
Idaho, Colorado should also get coverage
US regional carrier Strata Networks will soon start carrying the iPhone 5, according to its website. The company is currently only promising that the device is "coming soon," and signing people up to be notified when more information is available. Strata is based in Utah, but also has local coverage in Idaho and Colorado, and supports nationwide calling.
Should allow AT&T to make significant LTE expansions
AT&T has bought $1.9 billion in 700 MHz B spectrum from Verizon Wireless, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. AT&T says that the licenses should cover over 42 million people in 18 states: California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming. As a part of the deal, it will also get AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum in five of those markets.
Includes more German, Italian, American shops
A bevy of new Apple Stores are in the works for 2011, a report says. At least several of these are forecast to open in Italy by the middle of the year, including one in Bologna, a previously unexpected outlet in Florence, and a second Milan location. Possible addresses for the Milan and Florence stores remain unknown.
