Google has updated its terms of service, adding an explanation for its content scanning efforts. The new paragraph, one of relatively few changes to the document, specifically notes that Google scans e-mails in order to provide "personally relevant product features," including "customized search results, tailored advertising, and spam and malware detection."
Upstart Android manufacturer Blu has released a new midrange smartphone, the Vivo 4.8 HD. At 6.9mm thick (0.2 inches), the Vivo 4.8 HD offers a 4.8-inch screen with 720x1280 Super AMOLED display, the Vivo 4.8 has a 1.5GHz quad-core chip processor, 1GB RAM and 16GB of storage memory. Its camera functionality consists of an eight-megapixel rear and five-megapixel front-facing unit. Blu's Vivio 4.8 HD phone is available unlocked for $250, in black, white, yellow and pink.
Skype is planning to offer video messaging as part of its paid-for service. A change to the terms of service confirmed rumors that the Microsoft-owned messaging network would allow its users to send a pre-recorded video clip to other Skype users, with limitations placed on how many can be sent on non-premium accounts.
Microsoft has begun the process of updating the terms of service for its consumer products and services to prevent users from forming class-action suits against the software giant. The policy change, detailed in a post on the Microsoft on the Issues blog, puts a greater focus on private settlements and small claims courts as a means of settling consumer complaints, which could save the company millions compared to a punitive judgment in a jury trial, such as the Redmond company had to pay in the i4i patent-infringement case.
