Apple TV gains three additional channels amid talk of fall revamp

On Tuesday, Apple added three channels to its ever-expanding Apple TV lineup, bringing Young Hollywood, Tastemade, and TED to current-generation (black) Apple TV boxes. The TED app channel brings access to over 2,000 lectures and performances, with existing TED members able to sign in and sync viewing and watch lists across devices, as well as bringing the personalized "lean back" autoplay feature to the Apple TV.

Apple Maps is underrated, except when it isn't

Well, this is awkward: I'm about to enthuse at you about how and why Apple Maps is very good, but the impetus came when my wife Angela offered to pick me up from a meeting in Kings Heath, Birmingham (in England, for those not familiar with the place). I shared my location with her over Messages and was just thinking how handy this was, how straightforward and easy it was -- when she texted back "why are you in Stechford?"

TED iOS app adds subtitle support

TED has launched an update for its iOS app that provides access to the entire library of TEDTalks. With the v2.0 update users can now view subtitles in more than 90 languages directly on their device, or on external displays via AirPlay. New language specific catelogs are also included, allowing users to browse through a curated list of talks in any of the supported languages. In addition, the update claims to offer faster download speeds, improved buffering, and more profiles for different connections.

Google has just launched a new website dubbed 'We Solve for X' that aims to encourage visitors to read about and discuss 'radical' technology for solving global problems. The problems and their likely solutions would affect billions of people. Radical, Google wrote, would refer to the proposed solutions that resemble science fiction.

Jawbone has finally revealed additional details surrounding its Up bracelet, which was first introduced earlier this year at the Technology Entertainment and Design (TED) conference. The bracelet is designed to monitor a user's daily and nightly activity, providing insight into fitness activity, food consumption, sleep phases, and balances between active and inactive times.

Boxee to carry Hulu Plus and Netflix, gets new UI

Boxee gets Hulu Plus and new interface

Boxee at its Brooklyn launch event revealed that the Boxee Box and the software platform would be getting a handful of key launch partners. Hulu Plus is the highlight and will see Boxee offer the $10 monthly streaming service on its media hub. The company didn't say if the free web version will be blocked outright, but it said free wouldn't be an option and promised a "real" Hulu designed for TV rather than just the browser.
