Synology today launched the new DiskStations, the DS715 and DS215+. The DS715 is a scalable NAS server equipped with a quad-core processor, while the DS215+ is a dual-core two-bay NAS server. Designed to provide an all-in-one and compact NAS solution, both servers are equipped with a hardware encryption engine to help users securely store, protect, and share data.
Synology product users affected by the SynoLocker attack may have lost their files to the cryptoware. Representatives from Synology have informed Electronista that at this time, they are unable to provide assistance recovering data that has been forcibly encrypted by the malware.
[Updated with additional info] Network attached storage device manufacturer Synology is reporting that a new form of malware is spreading to some of its customers. Dubbed the SynoLocker cryptoware, the malware encrypts data on the network peripheral, and the perpetrators are demanding 0.6 bitcoin ($350) to get the key to retrieve the files.
Synology America has unveiled the DS415play, the four-bay follow-up to 2014's popular two-bay DS214play. As the second Synology NAS to support hardware video transcoding, the DS415play delivers full 1080p HD video to nearly any media-streaming device, with multiple streamers able to connect simultaneously.
Storage solutions provider Synology has revealed its latest RackStation NAS with the RS814+, and RS814RP+ with redundant power. The RS814(RP)+ is a high-performance four-bay 1U server, designed to scale up to eight bays when using an RX410 expansion module. A quad-Network Interface Card configuration on the unit fuels read operations at over 300MB per second, and write speeds over 190MB per second.
Synology America has announced its first media-centric DiskStation, the DS214play. It is the first DiskStation to launch with dedicated hardware acceleration, specifically for video transcoding. The DS214play can stream multiple 1080p video codecs, and is still able to handle a variety of additional processor-heavy tasks.
Synology on Tuesday introduced its latest DiskStation NAS for homes and small offices, the small DS411slim. It has four 2.5-inch drive bays for a maximum capacity of up to 4TB and uses less than 17W when in use, or just 9.6W in hibernation. Improvements from the predecessor, the DS409slim, include a faster 1.6GHz processor and 256MB of RAM.
