Dell has reportedly committed to offering a Honeycomb update for the Streak 7 tablet. The device currently runs Android 2.2, which is focused on smartphone-size devices, however recent rumors suggested the company was working to outfit the Wi-Fi models with a tablet-optimized variant of the mobile OS. The official confirmation points to Android 3.2 as the chosen build, rather than an earlier version.
The Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi tablet will get an official over-the-air update to Android 3.0 in September, an anonymous source told StreakSmart. Exactly what else will come as part of the update isn't known, but the OS should make a significant improvement to battery life. This is because the current build constantly pings the server and thus drains the battery.
Dell's Streak 7 tablet has been copied by an outfit called Welldone and is now available for order from China. Unlike the genuine gadget, it can make phone calls and has Android 2.3 preloaded rather than Android 2.2. The battery also has a slightly larger capacity, at 3,000mAh versus 2,780mAh.
