Resolution 1024x768 not most popular worldwide

Screens with a 1366x768 resolution have overtaken 1024x768 as the most used screen resolution on the internet. According to data from StatCounter (below), the change in popularity happened in March this year based on worldwide data.

StatCounter shows odd uptick in Symbian share

December StatCounter data has shown an unusual resurgence in Symbian on the web at the very end of 2011. Having dipped under 30 percent in October, Nokia's platform not only bounced back but nearly matched its high for the year at just over 33.5 percent in December. Most of the drop appeared to come at the expense of iOS, which shed a point and a half to reach 22.6 percent.

Windows 7 now top OS in the US, ekes out XP

Windows 7 has just overtaken Windows XP as the top operating system in the US, according to the latest stats from StatCounter. As of April 7, the newer OS reached a 31.71 percent of share, while Windows XP is only slightly behind, at 31.56 percent. The data was collected using visitor stats from over three million websites and should theoretically cover a large enough swath to represent real share.


Firefox 4 cracks six million downloads, blows past IE9

Firefox 4 nears seven million downloads in a day

Since its official release yesterday, Mozilla's Firefox 4 web browser is at nearly seven million downloads and counting, according to a live counter. This accounts for nearly two percent of the worldwide Internet browser market, said StatCounter, and handily beats out Microsoft Internet Explorer 9's 2.3 million downloads over the course of 24 hours.


BlackBerry unusually overtakes iOS in US web share

BlackBerry used more on US web than iPhone

The BlackBerry saw a rare recent victory today after StatCounter showed the platform overtaking the iPhone in web use in the US. After steadily narrowing the gap over the past year, RIM just slightly overtook Apple in traffic, accounting for 34.3 percent of American traffic where iOS slipped to 33 percent. Despite its growth image, Android as a web platform has leveled off at 23.8 percent.
