Multiple Eero units creates mesh network, configurable by app
A San Francisco startup is attempting to fix in-home Wi-Fi issues and remove the need for Wi-Fi extenders, using a collection of wireless access points for a cohesive wireless home network. Eero consists of a small access point which can work on its own as a router, though when it is near other similar devices, it can create a mesh network to cover a wider area with the same Wi-Fi network.
Security startup SlickLogin purchased by Google
Israeli security startup SlickLogin has announced that it will be joining Google, in light of the company's recent buyout. Aiming to offer a simplistic yet secure method of user authentication, SlickLogin's users can authorize access to a secure account by placing their phone next to their laptop or tablet, which emits an undetectable sound. The sound acts as a unique audio password, and utilizes patent-pending technologies. Google's acquisition of SlickLogin suggests that its two-factor authentication technology may be replaced in the future.
One of Apple's oldest stores to relocate
Apple has filed for a US trademark on the term "Startup," a report notes. A Jamaican trademark was actually filed for in October 2010, most likely as a way of claiming priority when applying in the US. As the trademark would cover several categories -- retail stores, maintenance and installation of hardware and software, educational services and technical support -- the name is thought to be related to expanded training and setup services that have been in play at Apple Stores since earlier this year.
