European regulatory support requested by Uber to promote job creation

Uber is aiming to create another 50,000 jobs across Europe as well as provide other benefits to the economy, if local regulators decide to work directly with the company, the ride-hailing service has announced. The positive potential jobs news arrives after another week of trouble for Uber, which has seen its service halted in yet another market in the United States.

Updated Apple page promotes taking advantage of US tax holidays

Eligible products may vary from state to state

Apple has updated a promotional page to let shoppers know about tax holidays coming up in nine US states between August 1st and the 3rd. The states include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, South Carolina, and Tennessee. During the holidays, Apple has said it will drop sales tax charges for qualifying purchases made online or at retail. Although taxes will still appear during online checkouts, proper totals should appear in email confirmations.

Columbia, South Carolina on track to get first Apple Store

Hiring already underway for retail jobs

Apple has started hiring for the first Apple Store in Columbia, South Carolina, notes local TV station WLTX. 13 job openings have appeared, although Apple has refused to confirm or deny any plans for a store. The company typically avoids announcing Apple Stores until construction facades are in place, but there have been exceptions in the past.

In new web and email promotions, Apple is pushing people to take advantage of upcoming US tax holidays via its online store. Ten states are holding holidays, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Of these, Florida is the lone addition in 2013.

Sprint adds 28 more markets to LTE coverage

Expansion mostly limited to minor towns

Sprint has expanded its LTE 4G coverage to 28 more towns in the US, according an announcement. The new locations are spread out across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Washington, Pennsylvania, Florida, Arizona, Michigan, Louisiana, Texas, and Massachusetts. Most of them are relatively minor; some notable names include Branson, Missouri, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Apple to open new Greenville, SC retail store on Saturday

New store second in the state, 295th overall

Apple's latest retail store is set to open Saturday, July 10th in Greenville, South Carolina. The outlet will only be the second in the state after a Charleston location, and will also mark Apple's 295th store opening according to ifoAppleStore, following fast on the heels of last week's 294th launch in Paris. The Greenville shop is situated at 700 Haywood Road in the Haywood Mall, on the lower level of the Sears wing, next to Abercrombie & Fitch.
