Dual 5MP cameras in Moverio Pro BT-2000 headset provides depth sensing

Epson is continuing to work on its own attempt at Google Glass-style eyewear, with an update to its Moverio headset. The Moverio Pro BT-2000 improves upon last year's model, with the device now including a five-megapixel stereo camera with depth sensing, as well as a new inertial measurement unit, allowing the headset to create more accurate augmented reality images than earlier models were capable of.

Virgin Atlantic to provide concierge staff Google Glass, Sony smartwatch devices

Virgin Atlantic airline has announced its introduction of wearable technology amongst its Upper Class Wing concierge staff. Using either Google Glass or Sony Smartwatch technology, staff will be able to facilitate a thorough check-in process, providing up-to-the-minute flight information, weather, local events information, and language translation, and more. The gear will be equipped with a dispatch app built by air transport IT company SITA, which will manage all task allocation and concierge availability. The app pushes individual passenger information directly to the assigned concierge's smart glasses or watch just as the passenger arrives at the Upper Class Wing, using facial recognition. The integration of wearable technology is initially set to be a six-week pilot program.

Head-mounted Google Glass competitor goes on sale

Augmented reality device manufacturer Vuzix has put its own smart headwear on sale to the public, beating Google Glass to a general release. The M100 Smart Glasses, initially shown by the company late last year and previously only sold as part of a developer kit, takes after the Google device in providing a large amount of smartphone-like behavior into a head-mounted display.

Wearable computer records 720p video, runs Android 4.0

Vuzix has revealed its upcoming wearable computer. Competing with the similar-in-appearance Project Glass from Google, the Smart Glasses M100 seems to offer most of the usability of a smartphone in a wearable format. Connectable to an Android or iOS smartphone over BlueTooth and Wi-Fi, the M100 allows wearers to take calls, read text messages and e-mail, along with other standard tasks.
