Nokia has agreed to purchase the entire 50-percent stake owned by Siemens in the Nokia Siemens Networks joint venture. The deal, reportedly worth 1.7 billion euro ($2.2 billion), sees Nokia take complete control of the company, which works on network infrastructure and the deployment of LTE-based mobile phone networks.
Computer chipmaker AMD will turn to Cyclos Semiconductor for its resonant clock mesh technology in its upcoming Piledriver-based chips. They will replace the Bulldozer-core chips introduced in the fall of 2011. The new technology will reduce the chip's clock distribution power.

VirnetX is expanding the scope of lawsuits targeting several major technology corporations, according to an announcement. The company has won a new patent from the USPTO, Agile Network Protocol for Secure Communications Using Secure Domain Names, which it is amending to complaints in two separate suits. The first case lists Aastra, Apple, Cisco and NEC as defendants; the second is leveled against Mitel and Siemens.
At the IPTV World Forum, the Linux Foundation introduced the MeeGo Smart TV Working Group (pdf). Apple, Siemens and technology licensor Sisvel together were reported as having forced an exhibitor to shut down an exhibitor's booth at CeBIT. The three had the unnamed e-reader and netbook maker's floor space cleared out on Friday after they alleged that the company violated patents. Siemens this week announced it has reached a new record in wireless data transfer speeds, beating the previous speed by a factor of 2.5. Together with the Heinrich Hertz Institute, the company was able to achieve a speed of 500Mbps thanks to white LED light. The light-emitting diode used in the test was produced by Osram, a Siemens subsidiary, and transferred data over a distance of 16.4 feet. The Ostar LED is one of the brightest LEDs on the market.
