Shift testing debit card for Bitcoin, standard currency payments

Startup aims to bridge digital currencies, normal currencies, loyalty points with debit card

A startup is attempting to make it easier for people to pay for goods and services using digital currencies. Shift Payments, backed by Y Combinator, is testing a debit card which lets users spend Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as if it is a normal fiat currency, with a view to allowing customers to switch between virtual currencies, normal funds, and loyalty points in the future.

Microsoft rolls out latest update for Xbox One console, adds friend notifications

Microsoft's Xbox One console has received another update, rolling out beginning today. Now including notifications for when friend players arrive online, users will be able to identify friends who are playing multiplayer games. The console's Kinect voice and motion detection has also been improved, reducing false positives on non-hand objects that trigger gesture commands. Other features in the update include improved GameDVR video quality, controller headset adapter firmware updates, silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand, and more.


SteelSeries shows Shift MMO Keyset for gamers

SteelSeries intros Shift MMO Keyset add-on

Gaming peripherals maker SteelSeries recently introduced its Shift MMO Keyset for gamers. The accessory attaches to the company's already available Shift gaming keyboard, and brings with it pre-programmed layers of the most common MMO emotes, and users can switch between three layers of programmable keys, which are pre-configured for custom mappings. An anti-ghosting feature lets users press up to seven keys at the same time.

HTC has been a veteran of smartphones but has only just recently ventured into handheld computers, and the Shift represents its first full-fledged attempt at an ultra-mobile PC. The system promises to take all of HTC's experience with handsets and translate it into a full-fledged Windows computer that happens to have the conveniences of a cellphone; but its real challenges may be both to compete with a new wave of notebooks as well as extra-capable cellphones like iPhone 3G. HTC developing Atom-, Snapdragon-based MIDs

HTC Atom Based MIDs

HTC is gearing up to produce mobile Internet devices (MIDs) based on Intel's Atom processor as well as Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile chipset, say reports from those in the industry. The reports would have the creator of the HTC Shift and other crossover computers produce the systems with the faster, more power-efficient chips as early as the second half of this year in a bid to improve HTC's standing in ultra-mobile PCs, which have been hurt by mini notebooks like the ASUS Eee PC.
