Samsung put a prototype Series 9 notebook on show at IFA 2012, complete with a high-resolution WQHD display and running Windows 8. The 13-inch notebook's display was seen to have a resolution of 2560x1440, far exceeding others in the same product range with 1600x1200 screens, despite being diminutive in size.
Samsung has started shipping its Series 9 LED monitor to the US. The 27-inch monitor, aimed at design professionals, uses an exclusive Natural Color Expert Technology, which claims to provide a richer viewing experience. A separately sold sensor performs the in-home adjustments using the built-in calibration engine, with an hour-long adjustment process also applied at the factory.
Samsung’s redesigned Series 9 ultrabook in its 15-inch form factor is now available for pre-order with at least one online US retailer, although specific availability was not mentioned. Only noted as ‘Coming Soon,’ the 15-inch model will also be joined by a 13-inch model expected to become available through Best Buy and CompUSA in the next few weeks. A 15-inch iteration hit the Korean market yesterday and is shipping with a Core i7-23637M ULV processor and a 256GB solid-state drive.
Samsung has delivered a streamlined sequel to the original Series 9 notebook in what amounts to a much thinner aluminum unibody package, but also delivering better performance. The new notebook has also been designed to pack in a 15-inch 1600x900 display in a 14-inch chassis. The new Series 9 also weighs just 2.5 pounds and is only half an inch thick.
Samsung has introduced a high-end display, labeled the Series 9 monitor, that will be displayed next week at CES in Las Vegas. The panel appears to be aimed at Apple's Thunderbolt Display and similar monitors, matching the 27-inch panel size and 2560x1440 resolution.
