Samsung and RealD make new deal for 3D LCD TVs

Full resolution 3D panels will roll out in 2012

RealD and Samsung have announced a new agreement for jointly developing 3D display technology that delivers full resolution 3D images to each eye by adopting active shutter technology on the display. This creates a brighter, flicker-free across a wider viewing angle. Previously, the HD image was shared by both eyes, cutting the effective resolution in half.

Wireless version set to ship next week

Syabas has begun shipping its PopBox media hub slightly ahead of its revised schedule, as the Ethernet version is currently in-stock at retailers such as Amazon.com. Customers will still have to wait until next week for the Wi-Fi variant, however.

Popbox gets July 23 ship date, initial app lineup

Popbox finally launching this month

Syabas has established a concrete ship date for the Popbox. The media hub should ship on July 23. It was originally due to ship July 4, but the company had decided that the software to go with the firmware "wasn’t quite where we wanted it" and held off for nearly three weeks. Pre-orders had already begun in May.

Boxes to support stereoscopic RealD format

PopBox has announced a new partnership with RealD that will bring 3D support to the PopBox set-top boxes. RealD technology presents the left and right streams as a single channel, requiring special glasses to achieve the 3D effect. The company's technology is widely used at the cinema level, featured in blockbuster films such as Avatar.

Samsung shows 3D LED TVs with 2D to 3D conversion

At its press conference on Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas, Samsung showed off a new LED HDTV series, comprised of the LED9000, LED8000 and LED7000. The 9000 is the flagship and, at just 0.3 inches thick, or about the width of a pencil, is the slimmest LED TV made to date, Samsung says. Part of what the company is calling the widest 3D TV product range offering, all three are compatible with the Blu-ray 3D standard. This flagship TV is the headline-grabber and ships with a full touchscreen remote control that will let users watch TV on the remote itself while a Blu-ray movie is playing on the TV screen.

Samsung, RealD team up on 3D HDTVs

Samsung and RealD on Monday announced a partnership that will see the former integrate the latter's 3D technology into its TVs. Samsung will support the proprietary stereoscopic RealD Format to bring high-quality 3D content into viewers' homes. RealD Format is a more advanced version of a side-by-side 3D format that uses filters and other technology to produce 3D images.
