Apple isn't generally forthcoming about specifications of new iOS hardware beyond storage capacity and processor used. A day after the release of the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro, and iPhone SE, enthusiasts have run tests on the gear and have discovered that both new pieces of gear have 2GB of RAM -- a positive discovery for the iPhone SE, and a less well regarded amount installed in the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, given the 4GB in the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
If you've owned a MacBook of any description for any amount of time, then you've seen that the maximum battery life drops. The great hours upon hours of work you used to be able to get out of that machine drops, and actually you're never going to stop that happening -- but maybe you can slow it down a little. Coolant 2.0 for OS X is a menubar app that gives you some tools to see what's going on, and specifically to tell you when you need to take some action.
The 5K Retina 27-inch iMacs updated yesterday can now support higher quantities of RAM than Apple currently supplies, it has been revealed. The refreshed high-resolution Macs now include four memory slots, allowing it to use up to 64GB of RAM by filling the iMac up with four 16GB RAM modules, double what the previous models were able to accept, and also twice as much as Apple itself offers via its online store when performed as an aftermarket upgrade.
One problem with having ever written about technology is that when you come to buy your own computer, you want the latest and the very greatest -- even if you really do not need it. However, the good side of the same issue is that when you do spend all that cash, you get a machine that lasts you a very, very long time. At least, it does if you buy a Mac.
Samsung is paving the way for smartphones to have higher capacities of RAM, by starting the mass production of 8-gigabit low-power DDR4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM. Originally hinted at by the manufacturer this time last year, the new mobile DRAM production is being used for the creation of mobile DRAM modules of up to 4GB in capacity.
Server farm and hosting provider Macminicolo has posted its preliminary findings on the latest edition of the Mac mini, noting that the RAM in the unit is not user-accessible as was the case in previous models. This does not completely preclude the possibility of it being upgraded, but doing so would void the warranty on the machine. The 5400rpm hard drive included in the 2014 models is upgradeable, but again only through a warranty-voiding procedure.
Adata, a company known for solid state drives and computer memory, announced today that it is releasing a series of DDR4 memory aimed at the overclocking enthusiast market. The new memory will support the latest versions of the Intel Haswell-E processors, as well as see a reduction in voltage to allow overclockers to get the most out of their money.
A sign spotted by a Mac user at the new Paradise Walk Apple Store in Chongqing , China may have leaked the changes coming to the next lineup of 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro, with the most dramatic being the bump up to 16GB of RAM as standard on all models, even the low-end unit. Assuming the sign is correct, all three models of Retina MacBook Pro will bump around 200MHz in speed, with the line jumping to 2.2GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.8GHz, respectively. It is assumed that the RAM in the Retina models remains non-upgradeable.
An additional eight car brands have confirmed plans for vehicles supporting Apple's CarPlay platform. These include Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Mazda, and Ram. So far, though, the parties haven't said when their first CarPlay-ready vehicles will arrive, or which models will have support.
Samsung has revealed its first 8 gigabit (1GB) low-power DDR4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM, something Samsung believes to be the largest density available for DRAM components today. Built using a 20-nanometer process, the single-layer chip could lead to the company offering smartphones and mobile devices with 4GB of RAM in the future, eclipsing current models such as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014 which currently use 3GB of RAM.

Adele's '25' album now streaming
Recording artist Adele has "pulled a Kanye" after saying that her current album "25" would not be available for streaming. The seven-month-old record, which has yielded a number of hit singles, is now available for streaming on all the major streaming services, such as Apple Music and Spotify, as of today in most major markets, with worldwide distribution to come. Reportedly, the singer had demanded streaming be limited to paid subscribers -- a condition that has hurt some streamers with artists, who aren't paid royalties for free or trial listens . Apple pays performers its normal royalty rates during its free trial, avoiding the issue -- and having repeated success in both signing up exclusives and placing those exclusives into the top of the charts. http://ti.me/28U7NOu

Fifth Hong Kong store to open June 30
The 46th official Apple store in what the company calls the "Greater China" region will open at 10AM local time in Hong Kong's New Town Plaza in the Sha Tin district on Thursday, June 30, according to a new page on Apple's retail website. Despite slowing growth due to economic turmoil in China, the country is still Apple's fastest-growing market. The new story will be the fifth for Hong Kong, a lucrative market for Apple thanks to the high concentration of wealth there and a thriving "gray" market. Normal store hours for the new store will be 10AM to 10PM every day. http://apple.co/291diaT
Apple Music bug bites very short songs
There appears to be a reproducible bug in the current version of iTunes -- version 12.4.1, running on OS X 10.11.5, both the current non-beta versions of the respective software -- that causes a streamed song to become "stuck" in endless buffering if the streamed item just before this happened was 60 seconds or less in length. The problem appears to stem from code in iTunes that signals the next track to start downloading one minute before the currently-playing track is done, and thus songs shorter than one minute don't trigger the download. Locally-stored music is unaffected by the bug, and the problem does not appear to exist in either the macOS Sierra developer beta or versions of iTunes earlier than 12.4, and does not affect the iOS Music app at all. http://bit.ly/291cN0l
Walmart Pay expands to 15 states
Walmart, one of the key progenitors of the failed CurrentC mobile payment system that was distinguished from Apple Pay by its ability to collect and share customer financial and buying data among its participants, has expanded the soft rollout of its alternative solution "Walmart Pay" to an additional 15 US states following a pilot program in Arkansas and Texas last month. Walmart continues to resist adding Apple Pay. The system, built into the Walmart app for iOS and Android, works with a complicated system of the camera scanning a purchase code at the register, then generating a QR code which is then scanned by the register. The system is available now in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington, DC. http://apple.co/28SqZfu
