QNAP has revealed its new budget-friendly Turbo NAS lineup with the TS-421U and TS-420U rackmount models for workgroups with fast-growing data storage needs. Both new models support cross-platform file sharing for Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX users, and provide a centralized storage solution, along with robust backup options, including Time Machine for OS X.

Qnap shows 4-bay JBOD Thunderbolt case at Computex
Accessory maker Qnap is showing a prototype of a four-bay Thunderbolt JBOD drive case at Taiwan's Computex trade show. The JTB-400 is capable of holding either 2.5- or 3.5-inch drives. No hardware RAID controller is installed, and the SATA bridgeboard is controlled with a Marvell controller. Pricing has yet to be announced for the rollout of the chassis, expected in the third quarter.

TS-x12 series uses iSCSI, RAID, Marvell CPU
QNAP has announced a new NAS server series for home and small business markets. The Turbo NAS TS-x12 line all use a Marvell 1.2GHz CPU, 256MB of RAM and gigabit Ethernet ports to keep up their speed. The new models are geared toward file sharing, centralized backups and web hosting. They also offer low power consumption and are almost noise-free.

QNAP intros three new home office NAS servers
Server maker QNAP has just introduced the TS-x19P+ lineup of Turbo NAS servers for home office use. The three include the single-drive TS-119P+,
two-drive TS-219P+ and four-drive
TS-419P+. All share an embedded 1.6GHz Marvell CPU and 512MB of RAM.

QNAO updates NMP-1000 with support for 1080p
QNAP has refreshed its NMP-1000 with the new NMP-1000P adding 1080p support to its networked multimedia player. While there is little to cosmetically distinguish between the two models, the NMP-1000P has significantly upgraded internals and an improved user interface. Powering the new system is a Sigma Designs SMP8643 system-on-chip running at 667MHz. It offers better internet services, improved hardware and software decoding and can be integrated with home AV systems by USB, or eSATA connections to a user's PC or Mac.

QNAP outs NAS servers with 1.8GHz Atom CPUs
QNAP Systems has refreshed its business-grade NAS servers with the new two-bay TS-259 Pro+, four-bay TS-459 Pro+, five-bay TS-559 Pro+, and six-bay TS-659 Pro+. All use Intel's 1.8GHz Atom D525 processors paired with 1GB of RAM. Each is also VMware- and Citrix-ready, along with being compliant with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V clusters and most common operating systems.

QNAP QMobile App allows NAS streaming
QNAP, best known for its NAS servers on Tuesday released an app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad that, along with a new firmware update for its servers, lets users stream multimedia files between the devices. The QMobile app (free, App Store) is compatible with QNAP Turbo NAS servers that are running the latest 3.3 update to its NAS management utility update. The combination eliminates the need to sync files physically and users can access them either using Wi-Fi or their 3G data connections.

QNAP TS-210 gets faster CPU, new look
QNAP today upgraded one of its most mainstream network-attached storage servers by launching the two-bay TS-210. A major replacement for the TS-209, it has both a more home-friendly, sleeker look but also jumps from a 500MHz processor to 800MHz. The extra speed better handles intense network traffic, particularly RAID 1 mirroring, without bogging down.

QNAP rolls out TS-410 home NAS
QNAP furthered its push into mainstream network-attached storage on Monday with the TS-410. While resembling its work-oriented drives, the NAS is meant for the home and has built-in DLNA and UPnP servers to share media over a local network, including to the PS3, Xbox 360 or to iPhones and iPod touch devices through an iPhone app. It also brings BitTorrent, FTP and HTTP downloaders to grab files no matter which computers are online.

QNAP NMP-1000
Better known for its network storage, QNAP today rolled out the NMP-1000, its first attempt at a networked TV media player. The device on its basic level acts as a conduit for Internet and locally shared network content with the ability to access Flickr and YouTube from a TV as well as see iTunes shares and DLNA-aware devices on the local network. A 3.5-inch SATA bay lets it share its own media and play 1080p movies in most common formats, including popular ones like DivX, H.264 and XviD.

QNAP NAS servers get 8TB capacity, hot swap bays
QNAP recently announced it has added two new Turbo NAS servers to its extensive lineup, including the TS-419P for desktops and the rack-mounted TS-419U. Their specs are nearly identical, including the same Marvell 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of DDR2 RAM and support for up to 8TB. Either can hold both 2.5- and 3.5-inch hard drives in four hot-swappable bays. Storage expansion is made possible thanks to four USB ports and two eSATA ports.

QNAP Turbo NAS servers
QNAP Systems on Monday said it will soon release two new Turbo NAS servers meant for use in corporate or entry-level enterprise environments. The TS-439U-RP and TS-439U-SPK share the same four-drive design that fits into 1U racks and has hot-swappable bays. Total capacity in either is 8TB when using 2TB drives. Either can be configured to accommodate 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard drives, with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM overseeing the actual workload of the system. The models can transfer data at 87.3MBps when reading from FTP sites and in RAID 5 mode.

Download Station enhanced
QNAP has announced its QGet Utillity for Mac users. QGet offers enhancements to QNAP's Turbo NAS Download Station; the Download Station supports BitTorrent, FTP and HTTP downloading, and QGet allows Mac users to access and remotely manage tasks on QNAP NAS servers, over LAN connections or the Internet. QGet for Mac 1.0.0 works with Mac OS X 10.4 and above, and requires the QNAP Pro Turbo NAS TS-509.
