Dolby developing 'super TV' technology with 4,000-nit brightness

Higher brightness in Dolby system offers higher dynamic range

After redefining cinema audio with the Dolby Atmos system, Dolby has set itself to work creating a "super TV" technology that is able to display images at a higher level of brightness than current generations of television. The prototype monitor shown at the event and the underlying technology is hoped to eventually show Ultra HD-resolution video at a brightness of 4,000 nits, far brighter than the 100 nits available to consumers today.

Seagate Pulsar 2 SSD packs 800GB, MLC in pro shape

Seagate on Tuesday morning put out four pro drives targeted at both enterprise users and serious users, including a near record-setting SSD. The Pulsar.2 is billed as the first SSD using multi-level cell (MLC) in business and uses the denser storage to boost capacity, but without reducing its lifespan. It can hold as much as 800GB in its 2.5-inch form but can take as many as 15 petabytes of writes, or more than five years if its drive were completely rewritten 10 times every day.
