Free update corrects bugs in v3

Prosoft has updated its hard drive recovery software, Data Rescue, to v3.1 which now runs natively as 64-bit on Snow Leopard systems, as well as tweaked the re-designed interface and made other changes to improve or fix issues introduced in v3, which debuted almost exactly a year ago.

OWC intros Mercury On-The-Go Pro portable SSDs

OWC portable SSDs available in up to 256GB

OWC on Thursday introduced its first SSDs as part of its Mercury On-The-Go Pro portable lineup, touting them as the lowest cost portable FireWire 800/400 or USB 2.0 powered devices of their kind. Starting off with the 64GB version, a 128GB unit and the largest 256GB SSD, each can transfer data at up to 100MBps. Each 2.5-inch drive offers a 64MB data cache. As with most SSDs, the lack of moving parts makes them more shock resistant, power efficient and quieter than rotating hard drives, as well as being more tolerant to temperature extremes.

First Look at Stox

Stock trading is becoming increasingly popular as a way for individuals to make money for large expenditures, while some individual investors even make a living from the practice either professionally or privately. As Mac systems become more popular, the need for Apple's platform to fit in with all aspects spurred ProSoft Engineering to unveil a new stock monitoring application called Stox. The software, which is published under its consumer brand, JoeSoft, is designed to allow users to track stock portfolios as well as trading transactions. Data Backup 3.0.4 brings Leopard compatibility

Data Backup for Leopard

Prosoft Engineering recently announced Leopard support in Data Backup 3.0.4, a simple, full-featured backup utility. Originally released on March 27th, Data Backup 3.0 brought a number of improvements and changes over v2.0, taking advantage of services that are resident in Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.5 Leopard, allowing for quicker backups. CD and DVD backups were also improved, allowing large sessions or large singular files to be burned across multiple disks. Users can also make multiple copies of a backup, and leave the process unattended in a multi-disc situation if they have a sufficient number of burners. Data Backup 3 is available directly from Prosoft, and through retail stores nationwide, for $60
