Princeton MyDitto uses USB keys for access, setup

Japanese company Princeton has just introduced a network attached server that's meant to ease set-up and access for the average user. Called MyDitto DE-MD2H2T, the 2TB drive ships with a USB stick that plugs into a PC and then automatically grant access to the content on the NAS, without requiring users to alter settings on every computer. The USB holds a management app that links to the NAS using the encrypted link.

Intel to invest $100m into US university research

Intel on Wednesday said it would devote $100 million in cash investments to US university research in the course of the next five years. These funds will be used to support a number of Intel Science and Technology Centers, with the first to be built at Stanford University. Its focus will be on next-generation visual computing.

Faulty handling of DHCP (the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is likely responsible for at least some of the iPad's Wi-Fi problems, one report suggests. To make use of a Wi-Fi connection, any device must normally obtain an IP address from a DHCP server. These IPs expire after a certain amount of time, and most devices will try to renew their addresses in advance.

Princeton University has issued a warning to students, asking them not to connect iPads to the school's Wi-Fi network. "These devices are continuing to use an IP address they have been leased well beyond the time they should," according to a note from Princeton's IT department. "This behavior causes a disruption on the campus network." The memo adds that should IT staff judge a particular iPad to be causing problems, it may be blocked from Princeton's Wi-Fi entirely.

Princeton intros 1080p 21.5-inch display

Japanese-based Princeton has launched a 21.5-inch LCD monitor, the PTFBGF-22RW. The screen is one of the smallest capable of a native 1080p resolution and has a 16:9 native aspect ratio as well as 300cd/m2 brightness. Its 1,000:1 static contrast ratio that can be boosted to a 10,000:1 dynamic ratio.
