Amazon adds 5 NBC shows exclusively to Prime Instant Video catalog

Amazon has signed a deal with NBCUniversal to add the previous seasons of five shows exclusively to its Prime Instant Video Roster. Grimm, Suits, Covert Affairs, Hannibal, and Defiance will be available on the streaming service over the course of this year and 2014. A number of other shows, including Smash, Alphas, and Warehouse 13, will also appear on the service, though under a non-exclusive distribution deal.

Pinterest restores features dropped from redesign, adds improvements

Pinterest has made some adjustments to its design and functionality, only a month after the social network revealed its new look. A number of items dropped from the site have been brought back after users provided feedback, with the team also adding improvements to notifications, search, and alerts relating to new pins being added to the home feed.

Search engine gets tie-in with popular sharing service

Users of Microsoft's Bing will now have access features integrating the search engine with popular image-sharing service Pinterest. Microsoft tipped the new feature in a post to the Bing Search Blog last week, noting that the ability to share to Pinterest flowed out of previous meetings the company had had with lifestyle and design bloggers at Bing headquarters last fall.

Zendesk hacked: data from Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest stolen

User emails, subject lines, and email headers potentially downloaded

In a post on its blog, customer support outsourcing firm Zendesk has reported that a hacker had penetrated its systems, and had purloined data from its customers, including Tumblr, Twitter, and Pinterest. Zendesk officials believe that the attacker was able to download email addresses and subject lines from support mails sent to its clients.

Skoopwire and Rendezvoo allegedly spawned key Pinterest features

A lawsuit filed on Thursday claims that Pinterest founder Brian Cohen misappropriated the concept and idea for social media sharing website Pinterest. The suit details development of failed sites Rendezvoo and Skoopwire, developed by filer Theodore Schroeder and two of his Columbia Law classmates. Pinterest believes that "the lawsuit against Pinterest is baseless" and intends on fighting it in court.

Pinterest iPad, Android versions join iPhone app

All three 'hand crafted' to take advantage of each device

In the company's first official press briefing, Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann released dedicated applications for both Android and for the iPad, joining the newly-redesigned iPhone version. "Our goal has never been to get you in front of the computer transfixed for hours and hours on end, it’s to get you offline," Silbermann explained, referring to users on the mobile apps versus the web interface on desktop computers.

Google+ snags top spot in service index

Ahead of Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest

Google+ topped other popular sites in the American Customer Satisfaction Index E-Business Report. As Bloomberg details, Google+ tied socially-editable encyclopedia Wikipedia with a score of 78 out of a possible 100. Google's "social layer" attained higher customer satisfaction scores than Facebook, even though Facebook maintains an overwhelming lead in terms of user base.

Smartphone users Facebook for longer than PC users

A new analysis undertaken by comScore, using its new Mobile Metrix 2.0 tool, has shown that mobile apps are driving most of the time spent on social networks like Facebook, overtaking traditional computer-based browser access. The typical Facebook user was found to spend 441 minutes of their time accessing the site through their smartphone, which compared with an average of 391 spent by users surfing the site from their computer. A similar trend was seen for mobile-centric brands including Twitter, Pinterest and Foursquare, highlighting the increasingly post-PC nature of Internet use.

Google is rumored to be in the beginning stages of acquisition negotiations with the photo sharing startup Pinterest. Although the companies have yet to publicly comment on the reports, unnamed sources have told TechCrunch the search giant is attempting a buyout worth several hundred million dollars.

Facebook at at evening event Wednesday expanded its Open Graph to include many more companies. Shifting away from its focus on music, it now has the gallery app Pinterest, Airbnb rentals, Ticketmaster, and 57 others that can use the verb system to integrate their sites and services directly into the social network. As an example, Pinterest now works in two directions, both sharing any pinned content and letting friends pin shared items themselves.
